Even that wont be right as Ca allows up to 75ft for certain combinations for trucks and rv's cant exceed 65ft. Here in Nv there is no overall length limit for trucks but its 70ft for rv's. This is why i said you need to check each state you plan to travel in.

Nevada has no overall length limit for trucks? You sure about that? So if I'm 300 feet long in my Semi I'm legal?

No because trailers still have dimensional. The removal of overall length laws allows tractors to now have those giant "condo" sleepers (RV bodies) installed. Also once a tractor hooks up to multiple trailers, then overall limits apply again.

Thanks guys (and gals) you really put me on to resources for answers and essentially answered my question. I was specifically concerned about California and Idaho. But you guys are the greatest. THANKS>

Just remember that most LEOs have a tape measure in their cruiser tool kit. An acquaintance of mine always had his short ruler (for ride height violations) and his copy of the CA Motor Vehicle Code. If he stopped someone who had a bit of a hotrod and a bit of an attitude, you can figure out the rest. Out came his tool kit and he would start writing. As he went he would flip to the appropriate page in his book and show the "victim" the law he or she had violated and then he would continue writing. More than one car was impounded during his career. Whether you have a problem with any LEO depends entirely on your attitude and his or her mood at the time of the stop. If you are legal these type of incidents do not have a chance to occur.

You certainly could be right. Was just thinking about those 45' Prevost folks towing their Hummers who kept getting ticketed but maybe it was 65 and not 60. I used to pull an extended Chevy Van with my 40' coach and I was legal but if I was 45 pulling the same toad I would have been over the limit so it must be 65'.

Yeah, I know. My coach is right at 44', tow bar is 5' (with a 1' extension), and the toad is another 15'. That makes me 64'...whew!

The referenced lists of towing laws are all wrong in their Montana listing.
See Montana Code Annotated (MCA) 61-10-104 for the REAL length limits.

I looked it up for you in the State of Washington if you ever come and visit. RCW 46.44.030 says you can be 61' 6" and a person can go to the DOT and get a over length permit for a fee and they will allow 75' and you have to have a placard on your vehicle stating your over length, and I believe you need a pilot car escort if your traveling over length at night. Anyway, your good to go in WA. State.

CA has 65' combination. If TV is truck tractor and 2 trailers do not exceed 28'6" each then it is 75'. There are exceptions but RVs are not included.

You need to also consider that towing laws are not reciprocal.

Get a truckers Road Atlas from a truck stop and it list the limits and rules of the roads for all states.

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Bill, I believe CA is 65', at least everything I looked at confirms this.
