Hey all.
This might be long. My brother is a big bus coach conversion guy who thinks he know everything, but since he has lots of money to make mistakes he's ahead of the pack.
We are looking to enter the motorhome group and we have always been looking at a class c, however smart a.. Suggested we look at older class A motorhome s because they have better suspension, towing, and overall features.
I know this is like comparing apples and oranges, but feel free to throw in your two grapes worth and we can make a fruit salad.

Keep in mind that a Class A will giving you more carrying capacity and towing a bigger vehicle is safer with an A. It also has huge storage bins outside. It's very nice to sit up high and gaze through that windshield. I would suggest you test drive some of each and see how you feel. It also depends on how you will be using it and sleeping space for the kids. Good luck!

Many great comments above. I like the cab over (the front wheels) of an A in handling. I can see better, make better turns and love the ride. You are probably not giving your brother enough credit for the advice you are getting.

Have driven both. The A will always have better ,more comfortable seats and leg room than any C!

Two gas C's. one gas A, now a 40 ft DP. Loved them all. Each fit our needs at the time. I really miss the short C's for being able to get into small sites and being able to drive them to town without a toad. The DP is now our home and it suits us well. The A's have more storage. All can ride and handle well but some may need some modifications. Our DP has cost $3500 in suspension upgrades to make it behave properly. A couple of air bags and good shocks can make a smaller C or A handle like a go cart. You have to first determine your current needs. Much like picking out the family car.

We have rented Class C's and now own a Class A diesel. Our Class A has a better ride, better towing power, better power in mountain driving, more head room in the driver's area, more usable living area. Ours is 33' and has a short turning radius so it can go where any Class C can. In my opinion the front cabover bed or entertainment area, is wasted space since we don't usually travel with more than the 2 of us. We can still sleep 5 if we do take the grandkids. If the only reason for thinking of a Class C is price, I agree with your brother, an older Class A vs a new Class C would be my choice. If it's a floor plan choice, buy the one that suits you and your family.

We went to a C after 4 A's.
There is NO perfect RV.
I find the C to rude better, easy to get in/out. From drivers seat.
I suggest rent one. Take a week long trip. Shop around.

We started with a 27' class C. Had it for 8 years. Then we bought a 32' class A. Much prefer the class A. Big windshield to view the landscape, just more room for us. We decided to stay with this length for easier parking in certain NF and COE campsites.

I looked a several large class C's with diesel and etc before buying our Beaver...no comparison. However, that said, if you are more than 2 people the odds might tip towards the C. One of my main problems with the C...beside build quality...was the totally wasted space (for us) over the cockpit which relegated the living space in a 34-38' to less than we had in out 27' TT.

However if we traveled with a couple of kids??? Different story.

"Smart a" is just plain SMART - listen to him!

An older Class A is streets ahead of a newer Class C IF you are going to be using it for more than the occasional long weekend.

Better systems, better living space, higher quality.

Nothing wrong with a Class C especially for shorter vacations and/or kids - but the Class A will give you a lot more comfort and enjoyment.

I had a friend who had both c's and a's. I preferred her A to her C, but it was easier for her to drive the C. She was traveling alone. When DH and I got our MH, we purchased an A.

We like the A - just seems like more living area when parked.

My suggestion would be look at both and decide what YOU would be happiest with. Everyone's likes and needs are different. What works for one person, may not for the next guy.

Look at the chassis. Many Cs are on F450. As on F550. GVWR starts somewhere around 16, 000 going up to 26, 000. If you go to the Ford web site they list the chassis & show difference in tranny, wheel base etc. I know you are looking used but it will give a better idea of what is under MHs.

I prefer a Class A over a C. IMHO they are easier to drive (better visibility) and to move around the interior. The only advantage a Class C has is more sleeping areas with cab over bunks for families and even that has been lost with the newer bunk model Class A's.
