T1) Can we avoid big Atlanta when we come?
Can we by-pass Atlanta when we come?
Can we drive around Atlanta, can we go straight through Atlanta, can we miss out on Atlanta when we come?

2)Take I-75 through Atlanta when you come.
Take I-85 through Atlanta when you come.
Please donโ€™t chance it on the by-pass trucks will be right up your A Class, just go straight through Atlanta when you come.

3)Please avoid the rush hour in Atlanta when you come. Try for Sunday in Atlanta when you come. Two a.m. is the best time, donโ€™t slow down during crest time, youโ€™ll be welcome in Atlanta when you come.

We live just north of Atl and grew up around it. Travel thru a good bit with 5er. Stay out during rush hour and I stay in HOV lanes thru ATL. I285 W has always been rough.

I have driven through Atlanta twice. Once late morning.. Posted speeds
Once evening (Say 5-7 PM) Well I was reminded of an Episode of the TV show McMillan and wife

Mac to driver: How far to (Where they were going)
Driver "At this rate a couple of hours"
Mac: How long if we walk
Driver: A few minutes it's in the next block
Mac: Pick up up.

Yup, I could have walked faster
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

Unless I'm missing it, I don't see 77. But, I've taken the 285 on the east and west side before. I've never been caught in super major traffic but have heard nightmare's. And, I don't drive at night, generally the 10-3 PM timeframe.

In a car, I recall taking 75/85 thru Atlanta and was surprised that it wasn't as bad as I expected.

Safe travels,
MM.

I go trough Atlanta several times a year and never use I-285. No matter what time of day I go straight trough. Aggravating but faster.

I live near Atlanta, and worked downtown for 30 years. My recommendation is to stay off of I-285 West, unless you like trucks, construction, and rough roads. in my humble opinion, going straight through is the best bet, even with all the traffic, which can be quite intense at times. Get into the middle lanes, or even the carpool lanes, and just go with the flow. Atlanta has HERO trucks that help clear accidents as quickly as possible. Actually, in my opinion, downtown isn't really that bad. Many of the businesses have moved outside of the perimeter (I-285) where most of the traffic now is. If you time it, you should be able to get from I-285 to I-285 in 30-45 minutes. North and south of the perimeters is an all together different situation, and south of Atlanta can be the pits during the afternoon commute, through Henry county. As far as I know, any other route is going to take you longer. JMHO

If you can avoid rush hours like others have said, but you never know with Hellanta. It can be horrible at 8am on Sunday if they are doing overnight construction, or a wreck. I advise using WAZE to get through the easiest pay. It will take traffic into consideration.

I live 30 miles south of ATL, and many times we end up heading to North GA through ATL on Friday afternoon with is the worst. Just get in the mindset that it may be bad, just pick a middle lane and go. Leave a good space, cause idiots will cut into any gap. Just be patient. You'll get through eventually.

We take I 285 West and even if it takes a few extra minutes, just stay alert.

I have done most of the "alternative" routes. I have found I-75 straight thru is the best of them all. Just try and stay out out the right outside lane as sometime it is exit only and it may be hard to merge to the left.

The only true way "around" Atlanta without being involved in the horrible Atlanta traffic is 77. I have never been on 77 so I am curious why you would not want to make that trip. Hills of WV? Tolls? Thanks.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

No easy way around or through Atlanta. After 10 AM and before 3 PM weekdays, and all day on the weekend take I 75 straight through Atlanta. Other times take I 285 on the west side.

The quickest way is straight through on I-75 non-rush-hour. You could get on US 27 south of Chattanooga and then work your way back over to I-75 or take 98 on into Florida. It would help to know where in Florida.
