Bad gas ?

Just purchased 2016 Allegro Bay V10 gas. RV has been sitting for a long time, very low mileage.
Check engine light on, took it to a Ford dealer and they said it was a misfire on two cylinders, blamed it on bad gas which they said is not covered under warranty. They want 1000.00 to drain the tank.
If I don't they said injectors and other problems will not be covered later.
Should I just treat and run the 100 gallons out and clear light ??
Or should I go along with them. They said they tested the gas by lighting some on fire and it did not all burn.

Thanks
Jim

I am going to tell you the story of a padlocked dealer (it may explain the padlock)

My wife had a Mercury Tracer (AKA Ford Escort with a new paint job) and since the FORD dealer was walking distance that's were I took it for a tune up. THey did half the job and it still ran rough so I ask 'em to diagnose

They diagnosed a leaking fuel pump (300 dollars) Visual inspection showed they caused the leak. no question in my highly trained mind on that issue.. Still ran rough

I wound up puttin new spark plug wires on .. Which THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE AS PART OF THE TUNE UP.. Ran like new.

Did I report them to DMV.. OF Course the inspector is a friend of mine and a fellow ham radio operator. His son was one of my Dispatches at State Police.
The DMV closed a dealership because you complained to a ham radio operator that you got a bad tuneup? Sorry, but the bull stuff pile is getting deep.

I have an older V-10 motor home. It was missing slightly and the mechanic found a bad coil. Big improvement in power. The "bad gas" sounds really suspicious to me. I think I would get a second opinion.

First bad gas can indeed clog just one or two or three injectors and .. Well the longer you run with it the more get clogged.

Second. multiply ways to drain the tank

Assuming you have a B.I.R.D. (bi-directional isolator device) you can simply plug in to keep battery charged. Disconnect fuel line at the filter and turn key to ON. firing up the in-tank fuel pump and let it drain off. Disposal of haz-mat (Gasoline) is up to you. I'd suggest a 'flash pan" and burn it But only if you are in an area where you can do that safely and without angering the fire gods (Law enforcement). Major danger in doing that if you don't know how (IE The other fire gods. Plastic Surgeons been there done that not fun)

|Or a siphon hose.. or both.

Then fill and treat to clean up remaining gas.
DOn't forget to change the fuel filter for if the gas is bad.. SO IS THE FILTER.

Fuel pump won't run unless you bypass the pump relay.
Relay designed to only run fuel pump when you have oil pressure or 30 seconds for starting.
Syphon out old gas and check with local fire department to see if they can use it for training exercise.
Have Auto Parts Store read codes.

So, you stated that the CEL was on. Did you have any driveability issues, or, just the Check Engine Light? Lets not prop the sky up before it's confirmed that it's falling. Low octane fuel sets the CEL on my F53 every time.

Low, 85 or 87? 85 did it in mine.

Sounds more like a coil pack (or 2) fouled. Get the codes read from someone who knows what they are doing, the misfires have a threshold and don't always exceed it to throw a code but a good reader can see the misfire count per cylinder. I would say it's either the plugs or the coil packs. And once you know the cylinders it's misfiring on, pretty cheap way to test to see if it's either of those things.

That's it exactly.....I got a bad batch of diesel, station was getting a delivery as I was fueling up, and must have stirred up all the muck in the bottom of their tank....cost me close to a grand to get tank drained, exactly because they had to dispose of bad stuff.

Time to find a new dealer to service the coach. Bad gas would not cause two cylinders to misfire it would cause 10 cylinders to misfire, randomly, along with difficulty starting, ruff idle, stalling and a list of other problems. And the shake down with the threat of the loss of warranty coverage, in it's last year for a 2016 model, is the candle on the cupcake.

Older gas is easy to fix by add new gas to the mix. If the tank is nearly full drain off enough to a 1/2 tank level on the gauge and refill the tank. Save the drained gas for use in the lawn mower, fire ant eradication program, civil unrest, topping off the tank on the daily driver or just back into the coach when it's a few gallon short of a full tank.

BTW, any problems with the generator? Same fuel source but being a carbureted engine the symptoms of bad gas would be much more apparent.

Drain it yourself, put in fresh fuel with some cleaner, clear the codes and drive it.

If it comes back then maybe get it looked at. I suspect it will be fine. Worst case it might need a couple of coil packs - probably not.

Does the tank have a drain plug? With the old gas you could slowly mix the old gas with good gas and use it up. I can't believe it would be as bad as they're saying. Its not 20 years old, its 2 years old.

Harbor Freight has a code reader for $49.00, Wal-Mart has a cheap one for $20.00.
