I flush out the tank with a Flush King when I travel or store it, keeps the tanks clean. Am I missing something?

A few bags of ice-cubes in an empty black tank may scrub the stuff that sticks as your driving. Did work for me.

I keep about 5 gallons in both tanks along with 1/4 cup of borax for slosh cleaning while on the road. Sensors seem to work fine since doing that and yes I add black tank chem also. Borax is cheap and it is kept on hand anyway as one of the ingredients in homemade laundry soap. Also super cheap.

Yes

1. Couple of gallons of water and one bottle of black tank chems in black tank

2. Couple of gallons of water and quart of pine sol type orange cleaner in gray.

Keeps the tanks clean and takes care of the stuff that sticks and stinks while you are driving.:B

In my 20 years of rving, I've never bothered to try and have any water in the black or gray tanks and it's never been a problem. They are empty all winter and once we are on the move, they're never empty for very long.

Ok that is what I kinda thought. Makes sence about the solids. Thanks folks

My black tank always has at least two gallons of water in it with two tablespoons of Happy Camper, unless winterized.

Another advantage of traveling with water in the black & gray tanks is the sloshing around may help clean the sensors so they give a more accurate indication of tank level (at least for awhile).

Traveling or not it's good to have some water in the black tank to prevent residual solids from hardening. Don't give much thought as to whether the grey tank should or shouldn't have water while on the road, doesn't really matter to us either way.

I don't in my grey tank but once I flush my black tank I add maybe five gallons, it's a fifty gallon tank I think. In my thinking it keeps the solids from sitting and causing problems.
