black tank safe wet wipes

We all know that you can't use just any old type of toilet tissue in a black tank. The tissue has to be capable of dissolving so that it doesn't plug the tank when you drain the tank. What about wet wipes? Is there such a thing as a wet wipe that is safe to put in a black tank?

Simple solution that we have been using for over 10 years. TP goes down toilet and wipes go in a small garbage foot operated pail with a cover that we put a walmart bag in. Every day bag gets discarded. Never had an odor issue, and have yet to run out of walmart bags which you get for free. Why take a chance with a problem black tank issue?

Just think about it for a minute...
wet wipes are packed in what?
Water and soap, right?
Since they do not break down in the container while they are soaking in whatever solution is in there with them, how could anybody think that they will break down when flushed into a holding tank, septic tank, or sewer treatment plant?
Our motorhome had been sitting on the sales lot for about 6 months before we bought it. The first thing I did when I got it home was flush the black tank. I got a half dozen or so wet wipes or baby wipes out of there, and they looked like they were brand new!
The only place used ones go around this house is in the garbage. I won't even drop them into a vault toilet at a Forest Service campground!

SOLUTION: Wet wipes are a no-no!! Got it. Thanks to all.

I'm glad I found out ahead of time, rather than after the fact as I usually seem to do when trying new things with the RV.

Since we have a big dog, we already carry a supply of plastic bags that we use to handle any wet wipes, or other items, that should not be put in the black tank.

Bill,

For me, Flushable is not the same as breaks up. If I were on city sewer, I would agree with you. Septic, no way. In an RV, due to the way holding tanks are setup and drain, I could see them causing problems.

Since my rig is winterized, I have a plastic grocery bag open in the sink I use for wet wipes, and when done, I close it up, toss it in the trash can and put down another one. 1000 for $20 from Amazon, and since Austin has a bag ban, it is money well spent to keep things sanitary without much effort without much access to running water.

As for using them in a septic system, some friends of mine found out the hard way about a guest flushing them down... after they had to have their septic tank pumped.

I guess I am alone or at least in the minority here but I use the "flushable" wipes both at home and in the RV. I probably will regret saying this but we have not once had a problem...hopefully this won't change after posting this. lol

No.

Your first half answers the second. Wet wipes will not even break down like tissue.

Thank you Clay for the coffee can idea. Now I can tell my wife she can keep the wipes. I had been thinking garbage can but the coffee can with a lid is a better option for her and the kids.

There was an article in our local paper about them last summer. They said there were a lot of folks having problems with sewer clogs due to them.

We have a coffee can with snap lid we use to hold them until disposal.

I didn't know that :B
Been using whatever TP we buy in all my various RVs since our first one had indoor facilities.

Now wet wipes I did know not to use them

They stick to the sides, foul the sensors, and are a pain. They should not be used in a black tank or septic system. Not too good for a sewer system either.
