Clean Glass

I have been washing our vehicles for over 55 years and I have yet found a product that cleans the glass. I generally use the standard Windex and paper towels and in the shade the glass looks good but take it out in the sun and the glass has streaks and smudges and generally a mess this goes for the moterhome, the boats and the cars and truck. So what do you guys use to get perfect window glass?

Newspapers only work if they are using old newspaper ink. Many small local papers still do. So if the ink comes off in your hands while reading then that's a good window cleaning paper. If not its just a giant paper towel the type that does not absorb anything I too use winded and Invisaglass. The Kit wax idea is very interesting ...

IMHO, the secret is a good squeegee. Water, vinegar and water, windex, whatever matters less.

If you use any thing like paper towel, newspaper, a rag to dry the window, you will get streaks because they all leave just a trace of moisture behind. If you are lucky, it might dry quickly enough to be streak free, but a squeegee it's all or nothing. If the squeegee is clean and supple, the glass is instantly completely dry and utterly streak free; if the squeegee has a bit of something on it that leaves a streak, you need to wipe it clean and do the glass again. But either way, you know immediately if you got it or not.

Put me in the Invisible Glass category. I'm generally terrible at cleaning windows and this stuff does better than anything else I've tried over the years. As someone who smokes in my pickup, not the sticks and bricks, DW's car or the motorhome, I get alot of practice cleaning glass.

The MAIN thing you have to do is clean all of the old calcium and other deposits off of your glass that have built up over the years. I have used Lime-a-way, and a few of the other products that are for removing calcium deposits around the house. This should be liberally applied with a cotton cloth, let sit for a few minutes, and wiped off with a dry cotton cloth. Be careful to keep this product off of your paint or interior surfaces. Once all of the various deposits are off of the glass, I use a mixture of DISTILLED water(available at most grocery stores for a little over $1/gallon) and white vinegar, Windex, or InvisaGlass to clean the glass. Newspaper works well to remove streaks.

I bought two cloths for doing windows. One is for washing with "only water" and the other dries. Absolutley no streaks, spots, just clear windows.

You can buy them at Canadian Tire (Canada), walmart, even some dollar stores. I bought mine at a home party. I have had them for 4 years and they do the house and all the toys glass. not a streaky window to be found.

One of my prior sins/hobbies was showing cars. It's an exercise in seeing who can be the most anal retentive in detailing their automobile. I found that Armor All makes a very effective window cleaner that is reasonably easy to use.

I’ve used Windex, vinegar and water, paper towels, rags and newspapers and they all work OK. But I think Invisible Glass does the best job.

Armor all clear glass and microfibre towel. Clean it first with the ceaner and paper towels. Then soak it with cleaner and towel it dry. Don't use one that has been softened in the washer or dryer. It will streak an be big smears in a little while.
Best was is to wash it with a leaves no streaks car wash and get it clean and wipe it dry with clean micro fiber.
I was mine with Mequires Ultimate spray synthetic and polish with microfiber. Comes cleaner easier and water runs ff better. Just be sure the whole window is towled good and wipers cleaned.

Invisible Glass. I use a lint-free cotton towel. Try it inside and out, you will be amazed.

Ed Manifold,
You took all the words, word for word, out of my mouth. I was going to write the same exact thread. I too have been washing, waxing and cleaning and our vehicles, motorhomes, trucks, boats and more for years and years and, I too, have tried a few dozen window cleaners and, like you, I find that in the sun, what was a clean, perfect window in the shade, is streaked etc.

I used to use newspapers and, other kinds of cleaners but, I'm still on the search. I actually have used Kit car wax on the motorhome windshield, inside and out and that's provided the best results so far.
