Cowcatchers

I installed a brush guard/cowcatcher on my pickup to protect it when animals ran in front of me and it has saved me expensive repairs several times! So my question is do they make them for motorhomes to protect the front of them? Sure would save a lot of money in repairs!

If you are worried about cattle ,you need a moose guard -around $7500.00 -
still interested? I got links.
The trick as someone said they can't move. and then they should fold uo or hinge down.
heavy too ,can the front axle handle it?
It might be cheaper to just fix the cap or write it off.

If you need one of these to drive your RV down the road -- Please,,,,,,,,,,, let me know where you are driving so I can plan on being somewhere else!

When I read this post it reminds me of a couple of guys running the Cub scout troop in Goblins .....Seriously, driving by sound, is really all that it's cracked up to be.

Before it comes up about liability, each state has different laws. On roads in Idaho, an open-range state, livestock have the right of way: if an animal is hit and killed by a vehicle, the driver is liable for the price of the animal and for the repair for the damage to the vehicle.
In some other states with open range, if you do not want cattle on your property, it is your responsibility to erect a fence to keep them out.
East of Cody, WY I had to wait for a large flock of sheep to meander across the road. They were not in a hurry and it must have taken 30 minutes for the entire flock to reach the other side so that I could continue on my way.

Making it strong enough should not be a problem if you have plenty of steel. Just cut slots through the fiberglass and attach to the main frame members. You see these guards on many trucks out West, including pick-ups, panel delivery trucks, box trucks, and semi's.
The problem is with a DP's that has a front mounted diesel generator and the added weight hanging out in front of the front axle on any type of RV. Maybe just a basic steel bumper out front may be better than nothing.

They need to be stout enough that they don't get pushed into the fiberglass themselves when you hit something. The taller they are, the harder it is to make them strong enough. I like the idea, but hard to make strong enough.

Maybe you could import one of these "Roo Bars" from Australia? Roo Bars

I would like one. To protect against minor collisions of any sort. The front is just fiberglass, so any bump will be expensive damage.

The F53 is nothing more or less than the F-550 with forward controls. So the same frame rails are available. Just hiding behind the front cap.

I may get bored some day and build my own. All I really want is a bumper with steps to shunt cars and to stand on for cleaning the windshield.

I meant to say motorhomes don't have much to attach stuff too as there are no frame rails on them like a truck. They are built more like a bus I would think

I don't know if you could do it on a motorhome. frame rails to attach it to. I would love to install one myself.

I couldn't resist! I too have wondered about those for RV's! I would think it would need to be a custom job but then there are logistics, like how to access the hood area, etc.

I feel your concern. We have traveled in several states where there is "open range" which means that cattle, sheep, etc are free to roam the land, which includes the highways. Quite often you will see animals grazing right at the side of the road and naturally they usually decide to cross the road right when you are driving by. We have had several close calls. This is the hazards of driving the back roads and seeing ALL of the beauty of this country. To fit a bumper to your MH may require a custom design.

With this group of cattle the close one just glanced at us and continued to relieve herself. Not really concerned about a large motor home driving by a few feet to the left. Cattle that size could disable most motor homes or do a lot of damage to the diesel generator on a DP.

OK Now I understand. YOU are the guy who keeps leaving those animal smear marks on the road and body parts scattered all over. 🙂
