Detaching sewer hose fitting

As my hands become more impacted by arthritis i have a greater struggle with the sewer hose fitting. I note a wrench is sold by rhino but i saw one very bad review. My solution has been to use a screw driver and tap it with a mallot. Wondering if others have come up with better solutions or use the rhino wrench with good results. I doubt as i age this task will be easier without a mechanical assist.

My sewer line where the cap is and the hole out of the bottom of the compartment was not lined up. So I ended up having to by a 45 degree fitting that hooks to the pipe and has the hose attached to the other end. This actually worked out better because the 45 degree bend in the fitting allows for leverage to help get it off.

Ours has a hose with a valve on the end and it stores in the wet bay. I've never had to remove the hose yet. If you have a wet bay that will hold the hose, something like this is fantastic!

My Rino came with a lube, been looking for more, makes the connect and disconnect EZ. But I have the wrench set still in the package.

I'm glad others found some use here. Last winter in Florida our site was close to the clubhouse and the golf carts would come rolling in for bingo or free food. They would get close to our motorhome until one night someone ran over my sewer hose. It sprang about half way back and I worked it to get as much use as possible. I pitched it last month guessing that I might have a pin hole leak. Not enough to see but enough to smell over time. I purchased some plastic white short fencing and a dozen 1 dollar solar lights to use as an outline so I spare us of this again and them the crash into my unility post. We stay at Lake Magic outside of Disney in Davenport-Orlando on 192. Like it and enjoy the people even when they run over my stuff. We used to stay at Fort Wilderness. It was never cheap but the prices are now outrageous. Do miss the boats we used to go the parks. For three grand I can miss them.

I have the Rino Wrench. I used to have another but lost it. The old one worked well but the new Rino one.. Not so pleased.

One option is a Tetford Sentenal hose.. Google it and you will see what is so good about this puppy.

Now what I do.. For the sewer outlet cap (You put on when moving) I use a block of wood and the heal of my nand more often than not to lock/unlock it

For the hose. Well I have enclosed plubming on my class A. NOTHING hangs below the RV. so I have a 5" Extension with a 45 Degree elbow (both clear plastic) Not only locked to it but glued on so it won't come off (Goop) This hooks to the RV.. My Tethford Smart Hose or other sewer hose (Depending on length needed) hooks to it.. Hooking up I first hook the hose to the adapters then insert the extension up through the portal and lock it on, it locks on easily due to the elbow.. Removal is the reverse.. First remove extrension then unlatch hose

The "Sentenal" has a long collar on the female end. makes it way easier to grip.

I have one of those too. not, yet, used.

For the sewer cap I put on one that has a handle on it shaped like a pull handle. Bought it on Amazon and just replaced the original one. Works a treat. For the sewer connections I also use some spray silicone now and then. Also works a treat. Makes screwing into sewer dumps much easier.

Great ideas. Today i purchased an adjustable oil filter pliers for 10 bucks at Harbor Freight. Looks exactly like what i need. I let my wet bay get messy and cluttered so got rid of my old hose and purchased a rhino and extension. Cleaned it all. Discovered my outlet was rattling on the ridge that supports it so placed foam under. Placed all my sewer related stuff in a rubbermaid container and the fresh water hoses in another with the extension cords. Much neater. I am trying to keep better storage without chance for rattles and more orderly. Will spray the connectors with silicone. Thanks all for the ideas and i will let you know in about 4 months how i am doing.

The best solutions are the ones we use. Yours seems to be a great one and led to even better things by cleaning up a mess you made. I sometimes have to stop a project to clean up and reorganize my tools. I haven't had a problem with the hoses yet but I'm going over to HFT and get one of those pliers.

Congrats on a great solution.

I understand your problem with hand strength and suspect that many of us will encounter the same thing at some point.

The wrench you suggested is nothing sophisticated and simply a plastic spanner wrench. I found them at several places for $5.75 and up. For that kind of money I'd buy two. One to use and one to use as a pattern for a machinist to make me one out of aluminum if I was afraid of breaking the first one. If I was going to have one made I'd probably extend the handle a little depending on my space available when using it. Not because I think the extra leverage would be needed, just because it may be and it wouldn't add to the cost significantly.

The bad side of that thinking is you would probably have $100 invested in a wrench that you could replace 15-20 times for the same money in the plastic ones.

rhino come as a pair @12$ left and right as in on and off

The logic of that escapes me. On or off would be simply controlled by the wrench placement on the fitting wouldn't it?

beats the hell outta me? I just saw it was two wrenches for 12$ and thought with the grooves and the way they grip there may be one for install and one removal

The two are so you can hold one fitting and turn the other, not that it really works all that well.

Mine has been getting pretty tight lately so I lubed it with Vaseline.

It's been extremely hot where I live and I'm wondering if the fitting have swollen with the heat. Interesting to see if it's easier in the winter.

I do what Gjac suggested. I got a sewer drain pipe (the one with holes in it) and attached it underneath my chassis. It is attached to the drain, then through the bay floor and into the drain pipe.
