driving speed

How fast do you fellow class Aer's drive? If you have good road conditions and are towing, how fast would you go? I am new to class A's, Very comfortable driving, My last trip I was averaging about 61mph towing. Looking for some insight from o you more experienced folks. I have Precept 35UN, gas, Ford V10, and towing a dolly with a Ford Fusion on it.

mTrumpet's answer is the best. Each coach type has a sweet spot where it just feels right. If you push past, temps go up and things start to mumble. I know people that run at 75 towing when they can and claim that's where the coach is happiest.

Running 55 on roads posted for 65 and greater will not make you any friends. Just sayin'.

60 MPH, gets the Allison into 6th gear. Above that and the already poor MPG, goes down faster.

On the interstate system, when the speed limit allows me, I set the cruise control at 67 mph. It's a safe speed for me, and I get suitable fuel mileage.

I generally try to hold around 62 mph. My MH will certainly run faster then that and if I find myself getting up there to far to often, I'll set the cruise control.

Of course I'll do faster if needed to pass someone. I love the RVs that go like mad passing you on the flats an then can't hold 50 mph on the hills.

No, I don't have a "Vehicle in Tow" sign on my toad. As close as it is to the rear of the MH, I hope people can figure it out. It doesn't really matter if they realize it or not as long as they stay a safe distance from it and all of the lights are working on it.

I've found "sweet spots" where my rig cruises nicely at 62, 64 & 67 mph (based on my GPS readout), so that's where I tend to run it down the interstate. When not pulling the toad, I've hit 75+ a couple of times for short bursts, but I certainly don't typically cruise at those speeds for long periods.

On secondary highways, I'll keep at the posted speeds and on two lane roads I'll typically find myself below posted speeds to reduce constant slowing on curves, blind intersections, etc. I'm always trying to expect the unexpected.

If, when on a two lane secondary road, I notice traffic starting to line up behind me and the road is not condusive to increasing speed safely, I'll try to move over and let traffic by, provided that there is a safe place to do so.

As others, I run at 55 off the interstate highways where possible. I'd rather run through small towns than risk another blowout trying to keep it at 65.

I travel at whatever the speed limit is. Since I usually travel 15,000-20,000 miles each year, in the decades I have been RVing I have seen the views on most highways and many of the secondary roads. My time on earth is limited and I would rather spend my time at my destination instead of behind the wheel of any vehicle. Saving a few pennies in gas is not a concern of mine. My Chevy HHR has been towed in excess of 50,000 miles with no damage from exceeding the 65 MPH limit placed by the GM lawyers.
Drive at whatever speed you feel comfortable at.

California has a speed limit sign when towing '55 mph when towing'.... so, it's 55-58 in California. Once we're out of CA, I'll hang closer to 60 mph.

While in Texas when the posted speed is 80 mph, I'll move up to 65 mph as I don't want to be going too slow.

I have driven the coach for hours at 70 mph as that's what it was built for. As an above poster mentioned, the fuel usage increases exponentially at higher speeds.

55 mph = 7.0 mpg
60 mph = 6.5 mpg
65 mph = 6.0 mpg
70 mph = 5.5 mpg

We weigh in at 55,500 lbs. We have a 500 hp Volvo diesel engine with 1,750 lb. ft. of torque.

I try to run 60-65MPH. our state speed limit for ANY vehicle over 10,000 is 60.
2000 Newmar mountain aire 4081 DP, ISC/350 Allison 6 speed, Wrangler JL toad.

60 in our bounder, 60 in Toyota Rv (pictured), and speed limit (65 or 70) in our TT.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

The posted speed limit up to 60 mph MAX. Sorry if I am holding anyone up. I need to allow more travel time to ensure the beer has been on ice long enough. Or I may not be in a rush, or is it I have seen a Class A rolled over on the side of the road due to a blowout.

Depends on what you are towing. Towing most cars... Cars are designed to travel easily in excess of 70 MPH so you need to consider other things.. PROVIDED the car tows properly (not all do).

I have hit 82 MPH while towing,, With a 100 MPH tail wind I might add and my foot no where near the accelerator pedal. MPG was off the meter. Display said "SPEED TOO FAST" or words to that effect.

Normally I tow 55-65 MPH. 55-60 is the "Sweet spot" for this rig.

X2 - I'm a lot more comfortable closer to 60 with the tow dolly and edge a little bit higher when towing the Jepp 4-down.

And, no, we don't put a sign on the toad. If they can't see the MH then they certainly won't see a sign 😉
