Dumb question

Hello all,

This is my first post, so let me start off by saying you all have a great site here. I have looked up many question, and found many answers on here for quite some time. My name is Jason, I am in Colorado Springs. I have been around boats and rv's my entire life. I had a pop-up, moved to a 30' 5th wheel, and about 6 months ago moved to a 37' Newmar Kountry Koach class A. I have run into some small problems with it, but have been able to handle them all myself.

Now the stupid question, google couldnt help me out too much. I had a blowout on my motorhome on the way back from California (another story, I am getting 7 new tires this week), when my tire blew, my driver front, it took the pad off of my hydraulic level on that side and also took a spring out. The spring I am talking about goes from the spindle? about 8 inches in from the tire to a piece of metal, one small coil spring in front of the axle, 1 in back. What in the world are these little springs for? Helper spring? How important are they?

Thanks for the help in the past, even though I never had to actually ask a question, and thanks for your answers.

Jason

Hi Jason, you didn't say what year your motorhome is, but insurance will cover damage from the blowout...if you have physical damage coverage (collision). If so, let them take care of repairs!
Our motorhome came with Steer Safe already on it so it sounds like it works. Good to know.

Steer safe it is. Thanks guys. The springs somehow removed themselves on the side where the blowout happened. But they did work. Now I just gotta get em back on.

Thanks,
Jason

Sounds like the steer safe unit to me too. It also sounds like it worked as advertised......Dennis

There are some steering stabilizers that have some springs in the area. I thought it would be on the passenger side though. That are also fairly large so I don't know.

Can you take a picture and post it?

Some systems use hydraulic down, spring return, system. The spring retracts and holds the ram/foot up.
