Florida Rv Parks in Winter

I'm planning a winter in Florida next winter. Generally, do you need to reserve ahead of time or can you find spots on the fly? The areas we are looking at: tampa, fort myers, and orlando. I just don't want to be forced to reserve for a week or more before we get a chance to take a look at the park. For example: Is anyone in Florida now and how full is your Rv park?

Here come the snowbirds !!!! Here we are in October in Southwest Florida, (Fort Myers Beach), and they are coming down in droves. Like the birds in Capistrano, our birds return with the same perserverance that the famous swallows do. The only difference is that they tie up the roadways, are irritable after their traveling, want everything done immediately on their arrival, have lost some manners along the way and think that all of us full timers are here to serve their whims and requests. This isn't only true here but throughout Florida, (we travel in our class B also). We live full time in an RV resort/campground. Our 6 month neighbors are not a problem, it is usually the weekend or weekly Rvs that can be somewhat demanding. But even with this we still love our area here known as Paradise. The weather is beautiful, sub-tropical year round. We just finished a very wet and hot summer but would not trade it to live back up north. The restaurants, beaches and activities are endless and top notch. But still remember during the winter season it may be very crowded and be patient with traffic and the waiting game. We are close to the Everglades and the Keys and travel that way at least every 6 weeks. Drop a note if we can help with any information that you would like on our area and we would be more than happy to advise. Have a great time and be safe.

We are staying for the 2nd year in a row at Riverside RV Park in Arcadia, 5 miles off I75. Very friendly place, immaculately clean, great owners and campers! Very close to Port Charlotte, and about 30 min to beaches, 1 hr to Ft. Myers. They are putting in about 250 new sites, you should check it out. There are lots of activities, special interest clubs, etc.

You beat me to it. I live in Lakeland and was going to post that I drive by the backside of Sanland on the Parkway often and have noticed some vacant sites. It's a nice place and in a good location.

We have been here http://www.eliteresorts.com/citrusvalley/index.html since Dec. 20th. Will be leaving Mar. 1 heading back to Ga. We return to Fl.,next yr. and it will be here. Gated community, close to stores and resturants. Easy access to Disney and the Theme parks. Very friendly people. We highly reccomend it.

We are currently in a park south of Daytona.

If you want a month without moving you probably need a reservation. There are about two or three sites open each night.

For the next month during race week and bike week the will be no openings and we will have to move to the west coach for a month.

National Parks and state parks need reservations.

We're staying at The Great Outdoors Resort in Titusville, FL. This is our first time staying for the winter. We selected TGO because we could make a reservation without a deposit, monthly rate decreased the longer you stay, included cable & electric, close to all major roads & gated for security. It's worth a look!

Zepherhills is located between Tampa and Orlando. There are quite a few resorts/campgrounds there. Not sure about the status of them though.

Just to second what some are saying. From 2009 until last winter it was relatively easy to get a spot even Jan to April. This year not so much. Many more units in all of the parks. It depends on what you desire in a park. If you want to be "near" the beach you will need reservations Jan - Mar. If cost is a big factor you might want to stay north of I-4 or in south central Florida. Having said that, those areas are far more rural than the coasts. From Tampa south through Ft Myers west of I-75 plan on reservations Jan - Mar. As you can see Jan, Feb and Mar are the high season. In the more desirable locations you can not just drop in during those months. Do your research and then make reservations. You can modify your plans the next year from what you discover in the first year.

Staying In N Fort Myers at present. Parks are not full, probably more than the 350-450 you will pay near Disney. Above Orlando expect cooler weather but warm comparedTo where you live. FL state parks are not cheap and stays are limited to 2 weeks. Sites should be available at Lake Louisa, Clermont unless you try spring break.
