Fridge and slides

Hello again. New to rv and had a question about our fridge. We do not have automatic levelers on our rv and will be buying some leveling blocks in the next week or so. Our first trip will be in 2 weeks and by that time we will have them. In the mean time our rv is not level. Our fridge is not on. Just wanted to know if it hurts the fridge to be un level when off? Also I have been opening and closing the slides w/o any problems, is it ok when rv is not level? Thanks zigpep

You might consider these to tell you when your rig is level. Put them in view of the drivers seat so you can find a level spot.

I use 2 x 8s with beveled ends to level my RV.

Sure we run our fridge while driving. The motion of MH while driving keeps the fridge operating.

Most use a bubble level in the floor of the fridge. If cross is partly on the circle rig is level enough for running fridge for extended periods. When on the road or parked for a few hours, OK to run fridge off level. We ran our fridge for long periods slightly off level on driveway and cooling unit failed at about 10 years which is not really short life. I've heard that older fridges had more robust cooling units that were made in USA.

We use them and they are fine, but it's a two person job, one with a level, one to drive.

Ok thanks, just hope we have not done any damage on the slides, they went in and out ok. I am researching levelers. Anyone use the yellow cameo ones that look like big Legos? They come in a black fabric bag.
Thanks zigpep

I think the majority of manufacturers want the unit to be pretty close to level before using the slides.

In my manual for our Winnebago it states to have the MH level before extending the slide.

Might want to check out your owners manual on you rig

Doesn't matter how much off level your fridge is when it is shut off. The only time it matters is when it is in operation,

Damage only occurs from being off level when you run fridge......if not on no harm can be done.

Slides.....depends on how off level. Could put more strain on motor/drives if heavily leaning to the side
Is it time for your medication or mine?

No. The previous posters seem to think your fridge is on.

Correct. No need for leveling if the fridge is shut down.

Depends on how far out it is. The damage done is cumulative (and permanent) and may not show up until your in very hot weather.
I keep my perfectly level. The excuse of "It felt level to me" will be a little help if the cooling unit clogs up and fails. The most important level is side to side (of the fridge).
For the best life and performance of your fridge, keep it level.

The newer fridges are not as sensitive as the older ones, IIRC Norcold has a 5 degree front to back(the rv not the fridge) and that is actually the critical direction. As to the slides it depends on what brand you have and whether the owners manual says level first or after opening the slides.
