How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I'm new here, and curious.

How many of us in Class C own Dodge B300 incomplete
cab/chassis based RV's? I know two others- Steve aka
Ripsaw, with a 1977 Brougham, and Leroy aka 1978_Dodge
_Delta who owns a 440V8 powered sharp looking 1978
Delta RV. I would like to ask, and offer, help, idea
swapping and comparing notes on our particular RV's
which are based on the Dodge B300 van chassis.

Yeah, I know. These are low tech, podgy old RV's that
would be considered "entry level" for folks like me,
but I have a deep and abiding respect for the quality
of these old "monsters of the open road". And anyone
wanting to pick brains, joke about, share notes or just
brag about our old A- Dodge-io's are certainly welcome
to PM or email me. Between all of us we can form a real
good support group, and help each other with problems
we know we'll encounter with an older vehicle.

Sure. I'd love a new RV. But I'd rather have an older
one already paid for, and a lotta great memories. Call
me frugal, an old hippie, or whatever you will. I'm proud
of my old land yacht.

Mark aka White Knight

P.S. Mine's a '72. Is there an older one out there someone's
motorvating in? Maybe even a Travco? W/K

There's a question about brackets for a modern a/c compressor. The chassis in question didn't have factory a/c but aftermarket. We had a setup like that on a Dodge van and there's an adapter plate that lets you mount an axial Sankyo compressor in place of an aluminum York or cast iron Tecumseh two cylinder compressor. There's a fixed mount you can use if you have an idler pulley or some other belt adjuster, and an adjustable mount that lets you position the compressor itself to tighten the belt.
I hope this helps. I don't usually look here so PM me if you need details.

I let my babe smoke in the old Dodge but only while in transit with the passenger window down. She does not smoke in it while setup somewhere.

We made our maiden voyage recently, just a short hop up to Santa Barbara for a day at the beach. I ran it by my tire/suspension shop and the front end is in pretty good shape. The boots are torn on the upper ball joints, but the only play was in the steering box. Nothing that $250 parts plus 2 1/1 hour labor won't fix. We lubed it up and after a few miles everything settled down and it drove much better. I think I can put off the steering box replacement for a while. The previous owner was at the beach party, and he said the dash scratches were there when he got it and that he hadn't heard that the engine was ever out. Now that the passenger seat is in, I see that they are right where your feet are, so that is the likely cause. I have more work to do to it next week. All my new interior lights are here, my new PD9260, WFCO8930, and Iota transfer switch are all here. And our new awning is on it's way, the fun never ends.

I am all-encompassing! :B

I suppose we just share interests! I'm only on here, Moparts, 66-67Charger, and occasion the tahoeforum.

Yes, Charger is sold, going to Manitoba! Sad thing is, I fired it up for the first time this year yesterday, and boy-howdy does that thing sound sweet! I should use the built 440 in the RV! LOL

I,ve changed a few engines before on both dodge and chevy vans and i always took them out from the front . Once you take off the grill, radiator and core support it,s pretty easy. But i have seen people do it the hard way thru the door.
But it would be my guess that someone didn,t know how to remove the doghouse properly and wrestled it in and out. I know my first few times removing and installing them things envolved lots of cussing and i came really close to making some marks like that :S

Thanks very much for the pictures as well as for the bracket info/search tips on ebay.
I know of a place that sells brackets to mount a late model sanden compressor onto the bigblocks which i think is what is also availible on ebay.....but it requires that you have all the factory a/c pulleys with the matching alt. & powersteering a/c equipped brackets etc. which my rig doesn,t have since it had an aftermarket system which i,m pretty sure is what treeseeker has since my
My alternator bracket and crank pulley look just like his setup .

Sweetnesses looks like he has the factory a/c setup.

Time to hit the junkyards and worst case i,ll have to make my own brackets which i would like to avoid . I do enough welding at work already .

Thanks again

Harry

Unlikely. More likely, a passenger put their feet on the dash or the PO piled stuff on or in front of the passenger seat. (An engine on a cherry-picker would probably put a big dent or deep scratch in the dash, if the mechanic was clumsy.) Usually, the front axle is removed and the engine is lower through the frame out the bottom. Second choice is usually to disassemble the front and pull it that way.

DaChiNooK-440 - I'm fairly sure I've seen big block engine accessory brackets for sale on ebay. Search for: (dodge, plymouth, chrysler, mopar) (383,413,440) -OR- (dodge, plymouth, chrysler, mopar) big block

Note: Things in parenthesis separated by commas creates an OR search condition on eBay. In the first example, the search would find any listing containing one of the four makes and one of those three engine sizes. In the second example, one of the four makes and the words 'big' and 'block.'
