Is it possible to rent a tow dolly?

We are thinking of taking our "not set up for towing 4 down" car with us this summer, but don't want to buy a dolly. Is it possible to rent them, specifically in the Toronto/Niagara area?

I researched renting a tow dolly from U-Haul and found that renting a car once I got there would be cheaper for a 2 week stay.

Two years ago I rented one from U Haul. $300 one way from Florida to Maine. Beware of very low priced used dollys. Some older models did not have brakes and do not meet current regulations.

Last year I rented one at a U-Haul location in the US and returned it to a U-Haul location in Canada. The opposite is also true.

I looked, found one for under $1000, and not locally. Luckily we're not desperate, but there doesn't seem to be many out there around here.

But I do agree, now that I looked at it, that renting isn't worth it.

That is how I have been making a living. I buy tow dollies on Craig's list and resell them for a profit. I may have to start cashing the SS checks soon. I sold mine cheap to my daughter's neighbor and after his first trip he offered it back to me free.

Renting one for more than a couple of days is not practical. At one time there were a lot available when everyone was going to four down.

So tow dollies are an appreciating asset? How can they be found for a cheap price in the used market if everybody turns around and sells them for more than they paid for it?

UHaul is proud of their tow dolly..I have rented them..good piece of equipment, but they are expensive...I would do what the others say,,,put that money toward one of your own and then after you get tired of it, you can sell it and recoupe some of your money...good travels

Ditto. Do craigslist or an rv classified. You can pick up a used one for probably less than what you are going to have to spend to rent one not to mention all the hoops you have to jump thru with U-haul only to find out they seem to know better about what you can tow on them. Border crossing with a rental?

And the upside of buying one? when you get back from your trip, give it a good wash and wax and sell it for more than you paid for it! :B

The only thing is,, that Uhaul "Thinks" for you and they ask what car are you towing and if your car isn't o the drop down menu,, they won't rent it. I know a prius will tow on them as I have done it three times with no issues Yet Uhal says otherwise. If your car is not on the list. buy one like someone said on CL.
