LCI auto levellers, error note

Friend has 2015 Itasca 35F with LCI auto leveling. Took it for a ride today and noticed that the leveling pad had a note scrolling across it
"leveler retract timeout error" return for leveler service

Could not delete/reset - levelers will not turn on. Cycling ign on/off does not eliminate error message. This is not my coach and I am trying to help the gal sell it after her husband passed away. Just trying to figure out if I can fix the levelers prior to delivering to new owners

Any ideas of what / where to look? As far as I know all was working properly when the rig was parked in early Dec just before the husband passed away. Any info would be appreciated.

Well, I think a LCI person laughing is really funny. Those guys have NO CLUE how to fix or even talk to RV techs. I stated I have never seen a remote sensor, not that they never had one. That is why I asked for YOUR particular model. Are you telling me that LCI person could not tell you what LCI jack system you had? If so, do you not think that LCI would at least have some intelligent people that could actually know that info? Not just point you to their on line service manuals. ALL the LCI system I have worked on have NEVER had RF/wireless components. I have worked on(and fixed all) in excess of one hundred LCI jack /levelor systems over the years. I guess you did not see my previous post that the OP used to FIX his system? Doug

I think you and LCI are confusing REMOTE sensor with a RF wireless sensor. Remote sensor just means at the rear and is STILL A WIRED COMPONENT.

Look at Page 16 of the 2013 and up manual. You will see the rear sensor and ON the sensor it states Remote Sensor. BUT, notice that it is WIRED and has a Wire harness to connect to the main control. You had stated that you noticed the Wire Antenna for your sensors. That is what I am trying to get you to understand. The whole system is hardwired.

I will have to reply in a day or two, I have to go to the storage lot to get that. I do have to get to know this "leveling system" (this is my first rv to have one) also the THOR "instruction book" doesn't even give the name or model and the info on the HURRICANE didn't come with a book about it... When I discovered in Ft Myers that the jacks would not go down I was a little aggravated because I had just pryor to leaving Atlanta drove the MH to Chattanooga CW and they said I had a line loose and refilled the reservoir with fluid!

I will post later with the model number

You may need to "learn " again.
1. This thread is about LCI HYD jacks on a motorhome.
2. Your sig shows a 5th wheel. Which should indicate you have the Electric GROUND CONTROL LCI system. Please confirm if this is right
3. The reason is, IF you have Ground Control, there is NO RF sensors at all. LCI Ground Control, is ALL hardwired.
4. Please state the Brand and Model of your level system. Doug

You show a Keystone Outback. I did not scroll down further and see the Hurricane. What YOU have to learn is simple. NOT ALL JACK SYSTEMS ARE THE SAME OR OPERATE THE SAME, EVEN THE SAME BRAND JACK(there are lots of models). So, like I asked, What MODEL LCI system do you have? I have worked on almost ALL jack system for the past 30 years and have never seen a RF signal style system. But, LCI is always coming up with new systems that are only for certain OEM's. That is why I want to know YOUR model of LCI. Doug

I had the "error code-external" show up when we were in Ft Myers.

What I learned:

The leveler has sensors attached to the underside of the floor in the MH, normally in the forward storage compartment, right side and also in the Aft storage compartment left side, they read each other thru radio (you will note a small antenna hanging down from each one...What I discovered, the connection at the sensor is joined together with a plug at the sensor, when we unplugged the connection, it was evident that one of the wires was not pushed all the way into the connector (white, probably ground). I pushed the wire into the connector with needle nose pliers, and all was working good, and has ever since.

In all likelihood the problem is a combination of the weather and the programing of the controller. If you're in Brighton Michigan the temperature this time of year regularly falls to the single digits or low teens. The message "leveler retract timeout error" happens when the actual time to raise the jacks to the home position exceeds the maximum time programmed in the controller.

If it only happens on rare occasions in cold weather it's likely the oil is so thick the pump can't force it through the system fast enough to raise the jacks before the system times out. If it happens on a regular basis the preset time in the controller should be changed. This has to be done by a technician with the proper equipment.

Went through this last night. Got home, looked it up. Hit "Enter" and "Retract", problem solved. I believe mine was leak down over time.

Most times not a leak down , but a DEFECTIVE Pressure switch on the manifold. Doug

I have to do that to mine quite a bit. It seems to just time out sometimes before it finishes between the air and hydraulics.

OP here - fixed it!!!!
started vehicle, applied parking brake
hit enter and retract at same time , cleared the message and showed "jacks up" with the diamond diagram showing which points were low.

Thanks for the pointers - love being able to fix something like this "with a little help from my friends" 🙂
