Been there and done that once and felt dumber than dirt when we got locked out. We only carried the key for and locked the dead bolt. The dogs jumped on the door and activated the lever on the lower lock. IIRC, it cost me about $35 for a locksmith to come about the 20 miles to where we were parked. Now we both carry both keys and always have an extra set in the toad.

When you left the coach to drive around in your toad....why didnt you have a spare coach entry door on the toad keyring? I certainly do and always make sure the wife has a key ring that fits every vehicle we use. If its just a toad from home...she has a key rig and so do I.

Ditto's on the HIDE A KEY. On my recent 6 month trip it saved me three times! Now duck taping a keep on a bay door is new to me. I've often thought of having two keys hidden. It's so much easier and prevents stress!

Isn't RVing we got locked out at Quartzite last January. We had a key but it just wouldn't work. Called a locksmith out and was able to get in. Not sure what happened, never happened before, hasn't happened since and hope it never happens again.

Somehow I fear that the door on my coach feels somewhat flimsy, it works, but I can't explain it...I can tell that someday that bottom lock rod might break from the handle...I do have a plan B if it does, let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Like Yankee Clipper above, we too had the lock mechanism break due to the pot metal parts. Fortunately this happened while at home so extra key was available for driver side door. Since then we have MH keys on all car key rings and in addition we have some keys wrapped in plastic bag hidden under the MH chassis.

Sick feeling, isn't it?
In my case, the lock mechanism on the main entry failed with both of us outside and key and cell phones inside. Friendly campers loaned me a cell phone for a call. We had the locksmith pick open the driver's door, which we otherwise don't use. Fortunately, America's Funniest Home Videos was not there to film me crawling behind the driver's seat, then getting DW in behind me. It wasn't a pretty sight.
By the way, the internal mechanism was made of gunmetal and sheared in the closed position behind the door latch. Drilled out easy enough, and the replacement was uneventful. Good luck.

I had it happen to me one time. There is one window on my coach that is shut but not locked. So I was able to borrow a ladder from another RVer and get in. My wife always has another key but she was 2 hours away at that time.
