What kind of fuel mileage do you get in your class C or super C?

Most of the C's are gas, I think the super C's are diesel?

I dont own a motorhome, doing my homework right now to figure out operating costs.

So if you don't mind let me know the MPG, RV size, engine (engine size, gas/diesel, Ford/Chevy).

Thanks !!!!!

2014 tioga ranger 25G E450 V10 actual length 26.5 feet long.

with 2500 miles on it got 8.5..nothing being towed..55 to 60 mph.

the E450 has a 4.56 rearend and the E 350 has a 4.10...maybe a little better mileage with all things equal.

But I like the extra load carrying cap.

The price of gas or diesel fuel is liable to go higher due to happenings in the middle east and American politics. Cost of fuel is a small part of the cost of ownership and usage of RV's. Many ignore the costs and see camping and touring as "priceless". Comparing cost of owning, using and maintaining including DMV, insurance, storage if required, to driving a car and staying in motels, etc are like comparing apples and bananas. If you can afford it and will actually use and really enjoy the RV often, it may be " worth it". It's a truck full of appliances and electro-mechanical stuff that becomes a hobby in itself to maintain, more like a cabin cruiser than an SUV.

Read the FAQ's at the top of this forum page and search "miles per gallon", for more info.

Just returned from a 7,360 mile, 22 state, 2 month trip in our 2012 24' Nexus C, E-350 with the V-10, no toad. The trip took us from Tucson to Maine and home again. Our best mileage was 10.75 and the worst 8.2. We averaged 9.35 which included a lot of city traffic, grocery getting, dirt roads etc. About 40% of the trip was interstates at 60-62 which usually got us 9-10. Lots of back country two lane blacktop at 50-60 pushed us up to 10+but driving into 25 to 35 mph winds on three consecutive days generated the 8.2.

Weather and road conditions along with your resulting speed have a huge impact on your real world mileage. I run with the Scan Gauge displaying both average and real time mpg along with trans fluid and coolant temps. Every fill up confirmed what the Scan Gauge had been reporting.

we have a winnebago aspect 28, F450 w/V10. We drive a little faster I guess than most. We are getting 8-8.5 @ 65mph. Just crossed Wolf Creek pass and averaged 7.3 from Colo Springs to Pagosa Springs. We tow a Hyundai Elantra 2700lbs. We drove 70 MPH across part of Neb and colo and got 8.3 in Denver. We saw insignificant difference by trying to go slow. We got 9.3 in Neb from Chicago.

I also run a 5 Star tuner which seems to have helped a lot. Engine is more civilized over all. Same was true with my F350 diesel, got almost same at 80 as we did trying to go no more than 70, it has a hypertec tuner on it.

I think some of it is the B+ design, less overall drag from the overhead bed etc., slightly rounded sides. Aerodynamics are important. With a slide in camper in my old pickup we stayed at about 7-8 and it was almost the same design as the traditional class c.

However, weight also plays a major factor. Bigger generally means heavier.

As Golden mentioned above, MPG is not the only factor in cost of operation, especially if you're borrowing the purchase price.

If for instance you're borrowing an extra $10k or $20k to buy a diesel, it's unlikely the savings in fuel will even cover the extra cost of purchasing.

Our 35' Super C has averaged 10.3 over 70,000 miles. We have seen MPG as low as 8.1 and as high as 12.5 mpg. It weighs 19,400 pounds and tow a 3,600 lbs car. It has a diesel engine.
Edit: Forgot to mention that we try to stay close to 60 mph.

Yes the mileage is better below 60 MPH, and having a short diesel motorhome will save fuel. Yet all of the Dodge diesel vans at my work needed a transmission at 110,000 to 126,000 miles. We take great care of our equipment too.

My boss started buying the 11 MPG Ford vans because he normally gets 200,000 miles before they require a transmission rebuild for about 1,800, while the Dodge required a NEW transmission for about $4,400 at the Dodge dealer.

I get about 11mpg at 60 and it drops to 9 at 70mph.

So far I haven't towed anything so don't know about that.
