Just curious, anyone drive their motor home thru this tunnel. You pay a fee and they let oversize (13" max ht) drive thru utilizing single lane traffic.

Dennis had a nice ranger on duty or else he sweet-talked him ๐Ÿ™‚

The length is 40' for a sgl. vehicle; 50' for combined vehicle. Here's the official site:

Dennis I was just going by the rules posted by someone else on the previous page where it said the single vehicle limit is 40'. Now I'm curious if it is really 45', or it depends on the attendant on duty.

according to - http://www.nps.gov/zion/frequently-asked-questions-about-the-zion-mt-carmel-highway-and-tunnel.htm

Q. How many times can I go through the tunnel in my oversized vehicle for the $15 fee?

A. The fee is good for two trips through the tunnel with the same vehicle in a seven day period.

Q. What are the size limits for an oversized vehicle?

A. Any vehicle that is 11 feet 4 inches high or higher and 7 feet 10 inches wide or wider needs the one-way traffic control service. Any vehicle 13 feet high or higher cannot pass through the tunnel.
Length restrictions are 40 feet for a single vehicle and 50 feet for any vehicle combination.
This information is also listed on the back page of the Park Newspaper. Visitors must pay for the one-way traffic control service at the entrance stations - not at the tunnel.

Hi,

I went through there in my 30' Bounder and a friend's 40' Country Coach. I had more fun driving the Country Coach. It really is no big deal.

Money can't buy happiness but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a

Porsche or Country Coach!

I went thru it once in 1999, I had to straddle the center line and drive the tunnel by myself. No Problems

It is not the tunnel with the problem with length. It is the switch backs on the west side dropping down into the canyon. Even shorter then fifty will drag there hitches and some MHs drag their bumpers. Take the switch back wide and be right close to the center line on right turns and the outside fog line on left turns.
There is no one checking at the base of the canyon eastbound.
Nothing to worry about!

Yes, we have gone through a couple of times now , the last time 3 months ago with the RV. These pictures are of another RV going through. There is a $15 fee.
They stop the traffic one one end of the tunnel and let RV's plus other vehicles
enter from the other side. The instruction for the RV's is to drive in the middle
of the tunnel, where it's the highest, following the center line. The tunnel is 1.1 miles, so sunglasses off, headlights on. We towed our car thru this year , but our total lenght was under 50 feet.

I got thru once going from west to east without having to disconnect. I guess I was just lucky. I know that going from east to west they make you abide by the 50 foot length limit.

You have to unhook the tow. They run traffic one way for you.
