We have owned this 2003 190P road trek for 4 years now . I am sick and tired of not sleeping well so we just ordered a coil mattress ( Queen short ) . We will only get it in 3 weeks and hopefully we can fit it in the door of the van and start sleeping better .

Update : We received the mattress yesterday and slept on it last night and slept good and comfortable .

It's a Obusform short queen mattress and went in the van no problem ( with a little coaxing )

It's 59 inches wide so since the space for the bed is 72 in wide we will use the extra 13 in for storage .

We feel now we can plan some great summer trips as long as our health holds up .

Happy camping everyone .

We bought a mattress from IKEA and it came rolled up. It was simple to place it aboard and then cut the bindings. It will roll up enough to remove or flip over too.

So a Latex foam mattress is NOT a memory foam mattress at all ! It's a different product all together if i understand ok .

Glad you can get some good night sleep in your RT and it sounds like a good solution . We put all trips on hold until we get this mattress in 3 weeks or less .

Will update this tread when we have it in the van and have had a few nights on it .

richardg40 - Our foam mattress is more comfortable than some of our friends and relatives beds that we sleep in. We had a local foam company that specializes in mattresses for boats (and there are zillions of them moored around here) build our mattress and cover it. It is actually two pieces, each of a different density, custom cut to the shape of the van. Mind you, I got rid of the very, very uncomfortable power sofa/bed and installed a 3/4 inch plywood base, which folds in half, when needed.

We have slept on foam (mostly latex) since 1966, in our homes. We even replaced the new spring mattress in our 5th wheel with a foam one. Memory foam does nothing for me as I find it hot, as well as uncomfortable when I turn over.

We also have found most of the foam mattresses at stores to soft, and we hate memory foam. You can get foam in lots of different densities. Our van mattress has 4" of latex in it which is 38 ILD (firmness rating). Our home one is 6" of foam of 41 ILD (firmer). They both are on plywood bases, and feel nearly identical because the thinner mattress is softer. Thickness reduces firmness. Neither of ours bottoms out, but we are max 170#. Good latex mattresses generally have much less tendency to develop a memory dent than innerspring ones do. Ours has a lifetime guarantee against sagging or deterioration.

Concerning memory foam mattress i was just a little concerned that after awhile my body groove would stay on the mattress making it uncomfortable . i weight 225 lbs .

i tried them out in the store and they seem a little soft for my personal taste .

5 inch height would have been better but at times on our RT bed we had the original seat cushions + 3 inch foam topper .

Thanks for your comments on your memory foam mattress .

We also use a foam mattress of 5" total thickness Tatalay latex. It is so comfortable we got one for in the house. At 9" thick, if you want to sit on the bed, you may hit your head on the cabinets, unless you are at the rear doors.

@ senf . Thats what we had talked about doing 2 ratcheting tie down strap to roll it like a hot dog a bit to fit it into the door . The salmons said doing this for a few minutes would not damage the coils inside the mattress .

We ordered Queen size that will leave 14 inches on one side that we will use for extra small storage ( bins ) to keep the mattress in place .

send how do you like your foam mattress ? How long have you had it ?

When I installed our custom foam mattress, I used two tie-down straps, wrapping one around each end of the mattress. Then tightened each strap and the mattress just rolled up into a cylinder. Might be worth a try with your coil mattress.

lol The door opening is approx 51 inch and the mattress is 58 inch . So there will be some squuezing involved . The fellow at the mattress store told me he would help .

We will gain a few inches by holding it sideways .

We are so looking forward to a real mattress in the RT . It's 9 inches high only but pretty comfortable ( sample in the store )
