What is your experience with this? Owning a 2002 40 DP in very nice condition and appearance; How much trouble will I have with "10 years" rules? I fully understand trying to keep junk out of your RV park, but 10 years? My 14 year old HR is as nice many much newer units I have seen. Planning a trip to SoCal and I keep seeing "age restrictions" noted. THX TB

Own a lot in a age restricted park, 10 years on the coach and 55+ on my body. Mine is a 98 but I keep it up by washing it regularly and have repainted the rock chipped front end. Some of the parks I have run into are high dollar snobs and nothing will satisfy them, have found that I am happier if I just avoid them. While I have an Itasca with a custom paint job, I have it badged as a Cadillac. It looks like a mobil swat command center. I'd put a pix of it but I can't figure out how.

My fiver is now 21 years old. It wouldn't be accepted in any of the "10 year rule" parks. Even though it has been completely refurbished by my high school buddy and I, the process taking two years. All appliances updated, new roof to include replacing the entire roof structure, and now the rig is as shiny as a diamond in a goat's butt.

Not that I have to fret, though. The parks I frequent have restrictions, too. No one allowed in unless they are active military, retired, or 100 percent service connected disabled veteran. Since most of these parks are behind fences and are patrolled by armed security forces, the wife and I sleep like babies. Having access to these "exclusive parks" is one of the perks of being a cranky old Air Force retired NCO.

I can understand that rv resorts don't want the Beverly hillbillies look. I have a buddy that has a 20 year old fleetwood, looks superb. He never has a problem, a couple of times he was asked to send a picture

We full time and I've never been questioned about the age but once. I told the desk clerk that it was so **** old that it was paid for. And because it was paid for, I can afford to stay at a newer park, thanked them and drove off.

I was worried about the ten year rule once! We stayed somewhere else but still caught up with my friends in the park I was worried about. When I showed up , I was surprised at the rigs ,ten years or older.Afew looked pretty rough.I talked to the park people and they said just let them know what you have. I could have stayed. so just ask,I don,t worry about it anymore just keep it clean an in good repair.

We just finished a 4 month stint work camping near Big Bend np. We did not have age restrictions. The park is highly rated, and we rarely saw a "junkie". We did see 2 airstreams polished to perfection, like looking into a mirror. One a 1960, the other 1961. Very cool.
My coach will pass 10 next year. Don't want my business? The guy down the road does. If your that picky #$///@÷ you!

As the owner, developer, rules maker of a RV park (not a resort) I have the 10 year rule as a benefit for my other site renters. It costs me money when I turn away a POS and yes I do not ask a well maintained rig how old it is, even when I know it's a few years more than 10 years old. If you have a nice looking 12-14 year old rig I would not worry about it's age.

As the owner of a Airstream I know how ageless they can look. I pained me recently when I had to say NO to a nice couple with a nice looking Airstream motorhome... it was 22 years old. If you bend a rule that much, someone else is going to make you regret being nice when they say "well, you let them do xyz".

"If a park has age restrictions, they don't want your business anyway. go somewhere else." I'm pretty sure I'll be glad you went elsewhere... it's still a free country.

Very nice looking park.

If they ask the year of my Sahara, I tell them. If they mention a 10 year rule, I ask if I can send them a pix of the motor home. If they say no, or it won't make a difference I go somewhere else.

So far I've sent one pic and have never been told to go somewhere else, even at hoytie-toytie Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort (no travel trailers or fifth wheels please!).

Don't worry, many private parks post coach age restrictions with the caveat that units over 10 years old require inspection prior to registration. What they are usually saying in print is that they would prefer not to have yellow school buses, down and out rigs, and converted milk delivery trucks (I've seen them out there). Without a posted restriction the parks action could be viewed as discriminatory against the individual requesting privileges. Camping at a few parks with this restriction I have viewed some lovely classic motorhomes and trailers in excellent condition. Two weeks ago I was at a resort and saw a club with coaches I remember from the 60's. Happy Trails.

I like the "exception approval". I do not like the idea of lying to get into a place.

I had a resort manager tell me the 10 year rule is a tool for him to disallow RV's that really look bad! He told me if a RV from the 90's came in and it was clean and looked good it could stay!

What does a 10 year rule really mean:

"If you show up here with a piece of junk motorhome or trailer that is dirty or falling apart and looks like **** you can't stay in this park."

Now how many RV parks are going to post a sign that says that? Probably not too many. It's not politically correct. So they post the 10 year rule to keep the riff-raff out and then they can alter the rule depending on what you look like.

Not once in the last 10 years has anybody asked me the age of my rig. They're often more concerned about my dog, which is a big overgrown puppy.
