Vent mode on..Rant mode on..

Through just accident, I found out that the IOTA 50R transfer switch used in my coach was recalled by Navistar, and many other coach manufacturers as loads made the contacts burn and possible fire could occur..Someone with a Fifth Wheel posted his burnt in a fire and I looked and sure enough..pulled the cover and saw burn marks on the bus...yep...accident waiting to happen..this thing almost went up in flames and it sits in the driver electrical bay...we could have went up and probably not far from it...I called Monaco support...the gentleman said YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN, Navistar bears no responsibility for pre Navistar RV...however, in my opinion, Navistar should have either A> TOLD ME ABOUT IT....B> Do the right thing and replace it

I sure have given them business from getting some parts for my coach plus you have all records from it...

When ASV took over , they should have at least notified me, the original owner....of an issue.....

Replacing switch now after it failed....

I should consider another Monaco coach?????.Sorry Mike Snell.your company's desire to put a small amount of dollars ahead of my life, behind a legal shield..not doing what is ethically and morally right, is costing you my future business....

CHECK YOUR TRANSFER SWITCH for IOTA 50R

To the person who posted about this...THANK YOU...

WOW, guy voices an opinion and immediately gets crucified. We are here to help each other, not slam a guy for a post. This forum has turned into one guy bashing another. sure, everyone has an opinion, but HELP the guy. I have been on this forum for lots of years and just started noticing the derogatory responses.
Try to be a little more sympathetic to someone's problem.

The problem with the Iota has been known and posted on many many forums.

IMO a lot of owners do not know they have the Iota installed, what a transfer switch is or where in their RV it is located and they are at risk.

I agree with the OP a notification should have been sent out and some RV manufactures did send out notices I'm surprised Monoco did not send out a notice.

Stuart: I am surprised you did not see the notice about these units on most of the Monaco forums. But glad you found it right away. Your problem is due to Navistar being a bunch of sharks who scr---d the owners and the dealers. They never bought the company. I often wonder if the bankruptcy judge had some part in this fiasco? Just a bunch of assets. Thus they do not have any responsibility to advise or notify any owners of coaches built and sold before the bankruptcy. As for ASV: They bought Monaco Coach ( a division of Navistar) from Navistar and thus they have nothing to do with any recalls of the old coaches. We are all on our own! I wonder if National, CC and Alpine also used that Iota item. Those companies are also gone.

Stuart.....Tomorrow call the number I gave you, they are pacific time. When you call ask for customer service. I got a machine the first time because they were not open....time change but they called me back in 30. Minutes. It doesn't hurt to try.

Given the circumstances, you might find it advantageous to sign up for the NHTSA vehicle recall alert emails.

Haven't been part of a recall yet, but when I bought my coach new, I filled out dozens upon dozens of product registration forms and sent them to the product manufacturer. Looking each item I registered helped me locate and verify the serial numbers and models of these items. I bounced my inventory against Damon's inventory as a double check. I've registered each item I've added, from tow-bars, BB, EMS, etc. I believe if there is a product recall, the manufacturer should be able to get in touch with me directly. The question remains whether the OP or others have done the same AND STILL missed a recall.

Stuart...Call this #. 1 800 685 6545

I called Monaco about a recall today for our TT and asked about this recall you are talking about for our neibours RV

I left a message and they called back in 30 minutes. They said that it is them you need to talk to.

Our 2011 TT was made by Monaco for a Canadian Company that is no longer around. We have had nothing but excellent service and care from the staff we talked to. Calls have been returned promptly as well as they have gone out of their way to get information for us.

I hope you get better service from them because they certainly can and have given it.

Did you call the 800-448-7825 number in the recall? They have an 800 number to deal with the recall because other employees probably do not know the procedure and are not authorized to deal with it. If you do a search online you will find that Navistar took care of other people's coaches so I'm not sure why they would single you out to ignore. Perhaps the recall letter came while you were traveling. There is also a toll free number for the NHTSA.
Read his post again, he said that Navistar was refusing to honor ANY recall for Monaco RV built coaches. That is a FACT, they are refusing to honor any recall on coaches built BEFORE they acquired the company through bankruptcy court. I agree that Mike Snell(Monaco RV, Navistar & now ASV) has caused more hard feelings with his stance than ASV can ever rebuild, even if they fired him today.

By Law.. If a company is sold, Many things do not transfer to the new owners.

However in this case... You may wish to talk to a professional..

(You may note I have not said WHAT things do not transfer.. I know warranties do not, but Recalls, I'm not sure of)

Good luck.. I do not have that brand of transfer switch.

Oh, as for notifying you... Well you were notified by a message in the forums here I'm sure. (or you should have been) But I found that, though the manufacturer DID notify all owners of a recall on my motor home that could have caused a fire, at least all owners they knew about.. The dealer had promised me that they would register my purchase with the manufacturer... THEY DID NOT.

I found this out when I contacted the National Customer Service dept and they checked for me.. There is also a very funny story about that recall. But not today. I've already posted it in several places.

This is the whole point...never got a recall notice..and I am original owner of this coach...and when I called support, I was told I was affected but because it was a voluntary Navistar RV recall, that they would not do anything for me and I was on my own...and they have all my right info..sent parts here and also sent me the brake pedal thing to install for a recall....basically, Navistar saw that they were not legally bound for the recall and chose not to even notify me...that is my whole point..

There was a recall for IOTA ITS-50R transfer switches. If that is what you have, perhaps you missed the Monaco Safety Recall - #12504 back on March 15, 2012. Here is the link and info. Monaco recalls
It seems that they did send out notices but they can't force people to read them or comply with them.
