split/two piece matress

Looking at jumping into a class C. I really like the floor plan of the couch and dinette on the same side, but would rather keep it short. I also like the triple slide shorter units (Winnie 26A, forester 2501TS, redhawk 26XD). I noticed these shorter rigs with bedroom slides all have a two piece mattress, some fold in half the others slide over themselves.

How comfortable are these mattress'? Can you keep the bed made with the slide in? Thoughts?

Tried searching, but not sure what wording to use and found no results.

We have a forest river Forester 2701DS and It has the split mattress in a slideout. I am usually disappointed in RV mattresses but it is surprisingly comfy and I have not had to add a memory foam topper which is a first for me!

We leave our folding bed made up. Were surprised to find the fold was not at all noticeable. Leprechaun 260

We have a Thor 26B with the bed slide. It has a folding mattress. We wound up putting a 3inch egg crate on top of it and it feels fine. I can sleep and wake up easily with it. We cannot use ours when the slide is in since it folds up from the knee area of the mattress. Being careful when folding the mattress before sliding the slide in makes most of the "made bed" stay in place while traveling, just need to make sure the bottom is tucked in nicely next time mattress is folded out.

You need to be able to use the bed with the slide in. Having to deploy the slide to use the bed is not generally an acceptable thing, as there are circumstances where you cannot or do not want to deploy the slide. Parked close to a tree, another camper (yes, they can be that close) or in a Wal-Mart parking lot, are all good reasons to keep the slide in.

In my opinion, slide deployment should never be a necessity to using the interior of the coach/trailer/whatever. It makes it nicer, but should not be mandatory for using it.

Not a big deal and surprisingly comfortable to me. However, the wife wanted a bit more of a "mattress topper" feel so purchased a tempupedic overlay that fits pretty well and makes her more comfortable. Our rig is a 2400R, so trying to sleep on the bed with the slide in is out of the question unless you are 3' tall.

We are extremely pleased with our 2250 Sunseeker with a split mattress. It splits at an angle so when the slide is out, there is no noticeable feel to the split. It is firm, however, so we added a mattress pad. It folds along with the fitted sheet and blankets as the slide is retracted. We've always liked it, other than it is a slide.
The 2251 Forester is the same layout, and we've heard no complaints about the feel of the mattress split from other owners.

We converted form a 5th wheel to a class C with a bedroom slide. We have a Thor Four Winds 25FS. Our mattress is very comfortable. We use a padded mattress topper and we transferred it from the previous rig to the motorhome mattress. Like some of the models you mentioned, our class C mattress folds over itself as it retracts. We just fold the topper with the sheets and blanket in half before we retract the slide. It works just fine. We cannot use the bed made with the slide in.

Our Thor 24 H/L mattress is made by Denver Mattress Company which has a pretty good reputation. The break is at approximately the knee.

Go lay on one for a while and see what you think.

You can keep it made when it's in. You can actually use the bed while driving if you don't mind laying across the mattress,,,not an ideal option, but still possible.

Can you keep the bed made or do you have to make it up after putting the slide out?

If you don't like the split mattress try a piece of egg crate foam. This should level out the split portion.

I have a split mattress in my Forest River MH, split across the mattress, about waist level. We don’t notice it, and DW is pretty picky. We were concerned about the same, but find the mattress AT LEAST as comfortable as that we had in our Lazy Daze. You might question if some responders have any actual experience with them.
