Staying at Walmarts and such

I am taking a trip this November to see my son graduate from Air Force Basic training in San Antonio. We are traveling from Wyoming. We have a campground reserved in San Antonio for when we arrive but are planning on just driving as far as we can and staying overnight somewhere with out paying fees. We want to do this both on the way there and back. Do all Walmarts allow you to camp overnight? Any safety precautions recommended? Are there other companies that allow the same kind of thing Walmart does? I am looking on suggestions of places since we are going to drive as far as we can and we dont know where we will be when we get tired. Any help is appreciated.

Anyone recall the Dave Mathews Band Prevost coach dumping on a grated see thru bridge in Chicago, right down onto a boat traveling under the bridge at same time. Its not a money thing, its a between the ears thing. Sad

I think there is a very strong possibility that we are joking. ๐Ÿ™‚

In my MH this is physically impossible. The waste dump is done from the outside of the bus. All valves are mechanical??????

You should park over the storm sewer and dump into that.

You have to check with the Walmart manager at the store you want to stay at. Some Walmart stores don't allow RV's to stay in there parking lots due to town, city or county ordinances that don't allow RV's to park in Walmart lots overnight.

Here are a few options, there are others. Just do a little research.
As said before, many WalMarts allow overnighting. Some do not because of local laws.

Enjoy your trip.

Why not stay at a campground? Most have a late arrival registration process, are usually safe, have hookups, and it helps the local economy.

Why not stay in a motel if your paying for your night stay and drive a car, better gas mileage.

I was thinking of installing one of those electronic valves on my coach...then I could dump while going down the turnpike.....especially if someone decided to tailgate the rig......:B...Dennis

Many years ago, when motorhomes were unusual, there was a system that could be installed that pumped the tanks out into the exhaust header pipe ahead of the muffler (catalytic converters hadn't been invented yet). You could empty the tank into the exhaust while driving down the road, and all that came out of the tail pipe was water vapor.
I wonder how hard it would be to build such a system, using a macerator pump and half inch ID hoses...

The original system was called a "Thermastan", and was featured in Popular Mechanics in the early 1970s.

we all have choices, I chose to not stay at Wally World, Have seen more than one pan handler at Wally World living in a ratty RV. Prefer truck stops. Having been a trucker years ago, I still know where most truck stops are, no need maps, get 6 cents off at FLYJ & 10 cents off at Loves (Diesel), carry 194 gal, so have choices.
My main issue, I tend to be more of a traveler and less of a vacationer, am just now at 72 starting to smell the roses a little. The fuel discounts work great, they go straight to my bank, I never get a bill, just statement, no problems & easy. Have covered all but the PNW area.
Cheers
