MH plus bike is the best of both worlds. Yesterday it rained all day so we stayed in or drove the toad. Today is blue skies, time to ride!

Good advice.

And buy an enclosed trailer!

Yeah, I have an enclosed trailer, I don't want anyone to see I'm "hauling" a Goldwing, they're meant to be ridden. hehe.

Almost ALL the Goldwings you see on the road are being ridden. At least 1/2 the Harleys you see are in the back of a pickup or on a trailer.

Just pok'in fun at ya Rick.:B

This is EXACTLY the same kind of trip I told my wife I want to do when we retire in a couple of years.

We want to take the Goldwing in an enclosed trailer to "an area/base camp", and just explore for a few days. Then move on. No particular direction or place.

Although....we've always just ridden the Wing anywhere we wanted to go. ie Niagra Falls, Canada, Mount Rushmore, San Antonio, etc. Have never been SE though, but we will.

After crossing over to the CA coast above San Francisco, be sure to take the Avenue of The Giants in Northern CA. That is where you drive amongst the Giant Redwoods. Also visit some of the groves that were saved from lumbering so that you can walk among the huge trees.

Purchase online the 'Mountain Directory for Truckers and RVers'. It doesn't include every single road but does included the popular ones and what to expect mile for mile. Even after driving the roads many times, we always referred back to it just to refresh ourselves as to what is coming next. It comes in various formats and for eastern and western states.

http://www.mountaindirectory.com/

Don't try to avoid some mountain driving though. That's where the awesome scenery is. Just get in the correct gear BEFORE starting downhill not while you're speeding up downhill. Semi trucks drive slow going uphill so don't feel rushed by doing so either. It's not a race to the top.

Sounds like an awesome trip!

While it's fresh on your mind - go into 'My Forums' at the top of the page and 'My Profile'. Enter some information about what you're traveling in. Also, do a 'signature' which will show up on every post you make with your RV type, model and size, what you're towing, if anything. This will hopefully solve any future comments and jumping all over you in the future when you return for more info - and please DO return! When you're brand new you really don't know the protocol on these forums. This will help out everyone.

Hello and welcome
You are planning the trip l hope to take just haven't put any dates or directions yet.
I also pull my new to me Harley behind our MH can't imagine not having the bike with us. Love to make the short trip from north central Fl to North Carolina and ride the twisties.

Our first big trip after retirement was to Albuquerque NM for the Hot air balloon fiesta ( awesome ) then over to the Grand Canyon, while attending the fiesta we jumped on the bike and went to los alamos and saw all the atomic bomb stuff really Kool.

Can't provide you any help at this time but you will get plenty here.

Check out routes and roads part of this forum much discussion on how to get from here to there.
