Is anyone running the 5 Star tune in their V-10 and if so are you happy with it?

You want the 87 octane tow-haul motorhome program if you have the Ford 5 speed.

It works great, every V-10 with the 5 speed needs 5 star, my shift points are so much better and the motor seems stronger as well, I tow 6000 lbs like its 2000 lbs..

Check my profile and see what I tow up the mountains without a issue, note I also have the Banks Power Pack system as well..

How is the V10 with the 6-speed?

I have no idea mine is the 5 speed, did see that the V-10 with the 6 speed has less HP about 44 less HP, that's not good.

I'm confused by their website also. It looks almost like you pay less to install it on 4 RV's, and know that's not right. Or maybe that's the per price if you buy 4 or more. And one looks like a box and one looks like a small computer. Wish I could understand their website without having to call them but will probably have to, to get my answer. Definitely tired of trying to use cruise on a highway and having it downshift to third.

Thanks Doug, I guess I have to ask, does it really help? What about the Ford warranty, any problem there? Any idea what it costs?

If it's under warranty DON'T DO IT. Ford will deny any warrant claims when it comes to the engine and transmission. They are brutal on the issue and will often just accuse you of using a tune in an attempt to deny a warranty claim ( yes I know they tried it twice on me on 2 different trucks).

After warranty have at it, you pay to play.

I bought and installed 5-star after a couple years with our rig. No difference in MPG, but a BIG difference in comfort. Shifting is way better, no more 5k downshifts.

Also did the cheap handling fix, changed the front sway links, mush better handling.

5 Star is the name of a company that reprograms computers that allows better performance, gas mileage, different transmission shift points, etc.

Thanks for the input. I went from a diesel class C to the V-10 in a class A Newmar 34 foot. The down shifting going up an over pass on the I is driving me crazy. I am going to buy a 5 Star and see what happens. Thanks again

The biggest difference is in the transmission shift points. It downshifts one gear at a time instead of going from O/D to 3rd gear.

6 months ago i puchased a very low mile (15,000) 32' Holiday Rambler Vacationer. One of the first purchases I made was the 5 star tune. My previous rv's had the Ford 460, so when we made our first long trip (3,000) to Pennsylvania and back, which covers a wide variety of conditions, I was very pleased. About 2/3 fewer downshifts going up inclines and made many in cruise. When it downshifted, it was one gear and I got to where I could tell which hills were going to result in a downshift and either tapped the brake to go over manually, or let it shift on it's own. Never had the 5k downshift others have spoken of with the v10. Very, very pleased with the 5 star as will as the v10.
