washer/dryer use

I am still looking at MH's and one thing I read was if your MH is equipped with a washer dryer is to wash your clothes in a RV park, why is this, does this mean you can't or shouldn't wash your clothes while traveling down the road?

We made the mistake of using the campground washer and dryer when we had our previous coach even though we had a brand new stackable Splendide W/D. Someone had put clorox in the washer and our new towels were spotted.

So, never again with the campground system. Not really sure why we used their units in the first place, maybe we thought it would be faster. The motorhome units worked in that coach as well as the Bosch units in the new coach.

Can't imagine using them going down the road. Parked in the campground works fine.

We had a Splendide W/D in our last coach, and used it maybe 3 times in 15 years of ownership. The dryer took forever, and never totally dried the clothes. We now have an Asko washer and dryer, and we use them a lot. The dryer works on 220V, so it dries clothes as well as our home dryer. We don't use either one going down the road; we start a load when we get to the campground, and by the time we go to bed, it is all finished. The front-load washer could make a real mess if something happened on the road.

We've got a stable Bosch washer and dryer and never use CG laundry facilities and use them often going down the road. Never had a problem.

Ours are the Splendide Ariston. I learned one day by mistake that at least the dryer does just fine down the road ๐Ÿ™‚ it shut down when we pulled power at the campground and DW says I'll finish later, but when I started the gen to run the ACs she heard it start back up. We do it all the time now. Ours is way in the back so I barely hear it driving.

Wash machine I haven't tried. I was going to, but heard on some other forums that Spendide doesn't recommend it so I just never pursued it.

We have a large enough grey tank so it no problem using ours while traveling down the road. Its very accessible with the slides in and normally we are running the Generator anyway. The coach rides pretty smooth so bouncing isn't an issue for us.

We use ours all the time. It has paid for itself way over the purchase price.

Once you learn how to use it properly (don't overload it, use the correct detergent, etc.) you will never use a campground laundry again

In 12 years of half time use we have never used a laundrymat except for rugs.

Interesting. We now have a W-D, we have yet to use it. In the past we were only out for a week at most and on occasion did a load at a CG or laundry. Now we are looking at longer time frames. I would not have ordered this, it was there. It may, MAY, allow us to travel with fewer clothes IF it works as advertised. r it may be a closet disguised as a W-D. Time will tell. As for running it as I head down the road, I seriously doubt it, ours is also blocked in by the slide, so we'd have to start it running a half hour before leaving at least. then we wouldn't be able to empty the dryer and move the clothes from teh washer to the drier until we arrived at our next stop. Add in the potential issues of the spinning drum being bounced around while traveling and the potential for leaks and I will not be attempting that!

I have had my DP over 15 years and used the washer/dryer once. Takes to long, does a lousy job, and used to much water........I personally think it a space wasting add on.

I wouldn't just in case something came loose. Can you imagine pulling in to a spot opening the door and water comes flowing out because a hose broke.

I would ask the washer/dryer manufacturer if bumping down the road would do any damage to the spinning tub. Our washer/dryer runs from park power or generator so we would have to run the generator while driving if we were using the W/D. In our case, we can't get to the W/D when our bedroom slide is in. Good question though.

Washers use water, dryers use electricity. Unless you have a good water supply and a generator running washing clothes while going down the road is really not practical. Can it be done? Yea. Turn on your water pump, hot water heater, and generator. Fill your water tank, and be sure your gray tank is empty, your set to go.
