What CAT engine do I have?

I'm pretty sharp with the gasser stuff, but my father in law is a truck driver, and has asked what CAT my 99' Harney Renegade 275 hp has. I would prefer to not stand there with my deer in the headlights look if I could avoid it. What can I tell him?

That was my conclusion. The cruise worked for a short while this weekend and then it didn't forever more. It's strange: Sometimes the speedometer is within 1 mph of what the GPS says, and sometimes it is 9 mph off....slow

Update: Had the codes cleared, and the cruise takes off working fine. Strange. We will see how long this lasts.

What chassis does your coach have?

If Freightliner, the brake light switches (2 of them) are mounted on the brake tredle, and are accessed from under the coach. A failing switch (or corrosion on the wire terminals) is a common cause for cruise control failure.

It's a Magnum. I wonder how you test the switches? I can access mine pretty easily.

If Freightliner, the brake light switches (2 of them) are mounted on the brake tredle, and are accessed from under the coach. A failing switch (or corrosion on the wire terminals) is a common cause for cruise control failure.

I did realize that the high pitched beep I THOUGHT I was hearing and the intermitant additional beep when we would hit bumps or get off level a bit was coming from a REMCO control box on the dash. I pulled the fuse out of that when we got home and hope that clears up the noise. I wonder if that would have anything to do with the cruise. Not sure exactly what the box was for.

Call the Caterpillar RV Hotline with the engine serial number (on the valve cover). They can not only look up the specs, but tell you exactly what HP and torque it did on the dyno before leaving the Caterpillar factory.

Thanks Wolfe. I'll pop the bed up tomorrow and take a peak. Its one of the units on the lot. Kinda of a nice to know not need to know thing as I think there is only a 60 pound difference in the torque rating. I like to play with all the buttons and knobs on the units when they come in and have the various specs figured out. Always find interesting goodies. Took me awhile to figure out that the coffee holders at the drivers and passengers positions were heated. 🙂 Go figure. 🙂

There is a 2001 Georgie Boy cruise master with a Cat 3126 on the lot. From what I can see it is not the E variant. I have been under the impression it was a 300 HP version but honestly can't find that indicated anywhere. I am assuming it is least the B variation at 800 lbs torque.

My 2000 Harney Riata has the CAT 3126B, 300 HP.

Wow, that's a new one on me. Never heard of cruise being canceled due to "High beams" being on. And, Our exhaust brake switch is ALWAYS ON, and our cruise works just fine. While maybe some chassis manufacturers MAY curtail certain operations of engine/cruise/E-brake/Jake Brake/ etc., not all do.

Don't know about headlights canceling cruise, but on many many coaches, exhaust/engine brake switch on WILL keep cruise from engaging.

Just as will stepping on the brake pedal!
