what year did EGRS , DPF's, DEF etc..show up on DP's

In other words when were the last good non-emission diesel DPs made. I have a 2008 RAM 6.7 with it and I believe it was the first year so I assume a similar time frame for DPs?

really well my 2002 ISC 350 got 8.5;; My current 2008 425ISL gets 7.5 and my friends ISL 450 2013 gets 7.5

Now on fairness these are all 41-43 ft units not 36 ft so much heavier than a 36 ft so its entirely possible to get 1 MPG more on a
lighter 36 ft unit on DEF BUT the cost of def negates any $$ savings fuel mileage wise

that's BS they don't build these engines looser at all;; same bearing clearance same cylinder clearance same ring end gap etc m

2011 seemed to be the last Winnies we looked at (freightliner/8.9 ISL) that were free of DEF.

Thanks, I had a mental of a large amount of engine rattle, a lot of oil consumption, and parts flying everywhere.

Never heard it called looser, but before DEF they had to use lots of EGR and run them richer to try and keep NOx down.

Once the NOx regs got so tough that the only way to meet them was to use DEF they could then do less EGR and go hotter and leaner getting better power and mileage while putting out 40x less NOx.

Could you please tell us people that are not up on the current Diesels, what "build them looser" means?

As far as I know Cummins is 2006 and earlier;; non electronic was late 1997 and earlier

1967 started the Big Downhill Slide, if that's what you want to call it.

Diesels started needing DPFs and DEF with the 2007 MY. Hardly any of that year exist because there was no ultra low sulfur diesel fuel available, needed for both technologies. Both EGRs and crankcase vented to the intake were used long before that -- both my 2001 and 2005 diesels had both.
