Can we talk about LIMA BEANS, please

We lightly steamed a frozen package of baby limas last night.

Not good. Not mushy but tasted old or off at bit. Beans were not a uniform size and different shades of green.

This was a store brand, not one of the biggie brands. Can you recommend a good frozen brand of lima beans, please. Thanks.

main thing, limas need to be thoroughly cooked and cooked with ham or bacon for flavor.

I'd be scared that those nasty beans would ruin a perfectly good piece of bacon ๐Ÿ™‚ LOL Safer to stick with deviled eggs;):B

The only good lima is a dead lima...

Sorry OP, I really shouldn't add impolite remarks unless I can help you... My opinion of limas isn't relevant to your question and it should be obvious that I can't help you. Hope you find a good brand of lima beans to enjoy (shudder).

I'm an "Even" person. When I mention that I love all veggies, somebody always says "Even beets (or brussels sprouts or lima beans, etc.)?" Yes, even those.

Agreement here!

Same here, there is NO way to cook lima beans that will make them edible.

If frozen food tastes off a bit, chances are there is either freezer burn or it was thawed and refrozen. I've bought 'frozen' food at the grocery store that, when I opened it, could tell it had been previously unfrozen.

Agree on the beets... only thing more repulsive is brussel sprouts.... Lima's, butter beans are all good stuff.

My wife had some Lima beans from a can last week that I thought were off the chain. I will get the brand name. I agree canned Limas are better than frozen ones. I love Lima beans and butter beans, and purple hull peas, and ......

I agree. We've had better luck with canned limas versus frozen. I liked highly-seasoned veggies and like Margaret Holmes limas sold at WalMart.

We use Birds Eye brand frozen fresh baby limas and prefer them to any canned. We add onion and ham or bacon and cook till done. They are best fresh from the field. Enjoy.

I agree with mockturtle.....better to use canned. If you want to cut back on sodium, just rinse them off. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lima beans are one of the few vegetables better canned than frozen, IMHO.
