I have just acquired a 12" deep DO and would like any recommendations for easy DO recipes for a guy just starting out. Thanks.

I haven't made one, but I would think a one pan, wacky, or depression cake, cake of many names, would be easy in a DO. Line a 10" with foil, mix it in the pan as directed and bake. The recipes are for 350 which is easy to hit in the dutch. The dry and liquid could be mixed ahead of time and then combined and baked with no mess at camp.

congrats on the DO.... whatever you can cook in your oven or on your stove top you can cook in a Dutch Oven. just keep cooking.... get on the internet for the International Dutch Oven Society and look for local chapters, there is always some type of cook out every weekend. If it is close go and watch and ask questions.

Thanks for your suggestions and the link to Byron's. Last week I tried the Roast Chicken.

Today I made the Pot Roast. Yummy! The gravy it made was delicious.

Later in the week on our first outing of the season I plan to try Monkey Bread; Peach Cobbler; Smoked Sausage, cabbage, potatoes and carrots; and Mountain Man breakfast from Lodge cooking 101.

This DO thing could be h*ll on Weight Watchers.

How about soup? There are recipes upon recipes out there, or make up your own. Nothing like a hot bowl of soup, chowder or chili and warm bread on a cool spring night! A 12" "cauldron" is enough to feed an army! It's easy, allows you to be creative and something you don't have to babysit.

Dump cake, cobbler or whatever you want to call it...so easy and so good. It's on Byron's page. I've posted a couple on our pinterest page. Go to my website (link below) and look over on the right for the latest pins. There should be one or two there.

Getting the concept of how much charckol to put on to get the right temp was my biggest problem. So I cheated and sprung for a cheap infrared temp gun. Works good on temp of DO and works great on checking tires on RV. How's that for combining a couple of things into one tool? Oh also makes good lazer gun for playing tag with cat. What could possibility be wrong with one toy that covers 3 things? Other thing was I was surprised how much room all the DO stuff took up.

Great idea, the temp gun. Re the amount of space, mine takes up very little. You'll learn quickly enough how to make space more efficiently for it by learning what you don't need and what will multi-task.

After looking on Bryon's site last year I acquired a second DO. Now one for the main meal and one for an Artisan bread baker with dinner.

X3 on Byron's site. That may lead you to others, too, but it's a great place to start. Let us know how it goes for you!

Double ditto. Wife just made a pot roast.
Sprinkle salt and pepper on a boneless chuck roast.
Get your d.o. hot on your coals; add a couple Tbsp of oil.
Sear your meat both sides about 3 minutes each.
Add enough chicken stock or water or alcoholic beverage of choice until up to the edge of the meat.
Put lid on and pile hot coals on lid (I put on at least 20)
After 50 minutes start another batch of coals
Cut a ginormous onion in half and put in pot on top of roast
When coals are ready brush ashes off lid; add more liquid if it's nearly dry; put back on pot; pile newly hot coals on top
After another hour and 15 minutes check to see if roast can easily shred with fork; if it does stuff your fork full of tender meat in your mouth to taste test. Take several more tests to be sure. Leave a little for everyone else .
