Using the RV oven

I never had trouble using the oven in our 5er, but it seems like it was bigger than the one in our TC. In this oven, every time I bake biscuits, they burn on the bottom. I use a rectangular Pampered Chef stone. I've never had an issue before this oven.

Is it because of the size? Any suggestions? Do I need to bake at lower temps than suggested? I haven't baked anything in it lately because of the latest results. It's annoying. I think it may be a 19" oven. I have it, I want to use it.

Anyone know where the thermal sensor is on the oven?

Dave,

I hear what you are saying and I agree with you.........Since that picture was taken I got hold of a tile cutter and cut it's width down a couple of inches.........but, I will say, it worked as good or better when it was un-cut.......

Eric, your tile appears to cover up the heat distribution holes. I can see having something to help diffuse the heat but would be reluctant to completely cover up those holes.

Once we put a ceramic floor tile in our oven, my wife was then able to bake cookies, corn bread and cakes like normal......

That's for sure, because I keep the iron in that silly, little box and cook outside!

IMO: all of those stones/airbake cookie sheets, etc-You're just trying to make a silk purse, out of a sow's ear. Those ovens were not designed by anyone that cooks.
BTW: if you get a ceramic stone from Lowe's, make sure it's not glazed. The glaze contains lead, and other non-food grade chemicals.

Another option is a Lodge outdoor dutch oven.

Put a pizza stone above the burner and you won't burn your biscuits any more. The pizza stone will make your oven useable again, we cook a lot in ours. The wife bakes brownies, cookies, too.

You can also use a large unglazed ceramic floor tile too, we've tried that and it works fine.

BTW, we don't cook "on" the pizza stone, we just place it above the burner to even out the heat coming off the burner.

Air-Bake, Pizza stone will work fine.

We simply went to Lowes and bought a 12x12 ceramic tile to put in the oven. nothing burns and it was a very cheap item.

When ordering our new fifth wheel, I asked if I could substitute a different appliance. I wanted to buy a European 24 inch stove top/oven made by Verona. Fifty times the quality but the manufacture said no as they are not approved for RV's. The rv oven we have is junk like the rest. I will eventually replace the unit with a Verona but until then, we use an extra cookie sheet to disperse the vertical heat. Best of luck.

As said earlier a pizza stone will solve your issue. We have done biscuits, cakes and even yorkshire pudding in ours which they tell me is way off base but works well with the pizza stone. We burned many biscuits before learning an easy to fix problem.

Very true, but since I have to flip the food in my oven, I think it would only be fair of you to offer me slice of that cherry pie when we are camped next to you... 😉

You'll probably end up with more than a slice. With the diet my wife and I are on, we eat one piece of what I bake and give the rest away.

We found a pizza stone from Pampered Chef that fits almost perfectly in the oven. Can't bake in them with out a pizza stone.
