E-book reader Kindle Paperwhite

DW just got her new Kindle Paperwhite.
Up till now she has always read paper books, but she decided to get into the tech age. She is as happy as a clam and I may not see here much, until it's charging time, which could be anywhere up to 8 weeks at a shot.

You might say that it is so easy to use that even a DW can do it.
Here wifi connects great for book downloads.

This is from another site:

"It is pretty easy to โ€œextendโ€ the due date of the library ebook you check out to your kindle, just turn your wireless connection off until youโ€™re done with it. This will allow you to keep reading the book until youโ€™re done. The title wonโ€™t expire until you reactivate your wireless connection."

That's the way mine works.

I didn't mean to appear short, but I don't have a date, and no place to set the date. I can set the time, but there is nowhere to enter the date. You may have missed this particular model. It's not the Paperwhite, just a special offer non-touch Kindle. Even if it had a date I would not want to enter it since the ability to read past the return date can be handy.

Sounds like yours is different from mine. Mine has no idea of the date, which has come in handy a few times when I've gotten distracted and not finished a book before it is due back. I guessed they've wised up and fixed it. Bummer.

Come to think of it, all my books have been downloaded wirelessly so maybe that has something to do with it. Dunno.

You need to go to the settings, turn on wifi, go to date and time, click to manually change, and put in date and time. Then put date and time to auto and turn wifi off.

Why would I want to do that, even if I could? But like I said, my Kindle does not know the date, there is no place to set the date. I can set the time, but not the date. And wouldn't even if I could. Why would I want to mess with a good thing?

Sorry..I have every Kindle and they all have the date and time. Just tried to help. Excuse me.

Here's a handy link for those of us who love free books:

If this, then that

This website lets you set up or use an existing recipe to trigger actions. I have three recipes set up for ebooks. The first time a book enters the top 100 free ebooks on Amazon, IFTTT emails me a link to that book. Same if one enters the top 100 Science Fiction or top 100 Fantasy.

Hope some of you find this useful!

All the ebook readers be it iBooks, Kindle, Nook, Google Reader, Overdrive, etc. are acceptable readers for me to use on the iPad. Why bother with Calibre if you can buy a book or get a free book and read it without further work? Once read, with the exception of some non-fiction, I just archive and forget and take pride in having them like my real library. Also, still having them allows me to remember if I read a book (hey, I'm old ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). I may re-open the book for some quote or other reason. Often I have those quotes highlighted.

Buying books through iTunes is easy once you have an account set up which can also be used for movies, TV, AppleTV and music needs. Just a one click and password. Library books in Overdrive are somewhat more convoluted. Amazon.com is fairly easy as well if you have a one-click account. Amazon.com gives you a lot more information and reviews. I just bought a non-fiction book yesterday for the iPad Kindle Reader as it was $2 cheaper than iTunes and I knew my wife would never read it.

I'm curious as I don't own a Nook or Kindle device. On the iPad I think I can read a book on the iPad from just about any e-source such as Google, Amazon.com or B&N. If I owned a Kindle could I read a Nook or iBook (Apple iTunes) without some knowledgable conversion gymnastics or a need to resort to using a computer to do so? Same question for Nook reading Kindle and iBooks.

Just because you have an Ipad (like me) there is no reason not to get most of your books from Amazon which has a much larger collection of books than Apple and many more free ones from even well known published authors. The Kindle App is available and you can see all your Amazon books. Ibook along with Dropbox app can put all your Epub (Nook and non Mobi library books) on the Ipad. You can use Calibre to store all your books no matter where they come from. Calibre will work with the Marvin App on Ipad and you can move your books through the usb connection.
Along with the poor interface of Itunes, you need more than just Apple for books if you want to read the many latest books.

Although I can read books on my Kindle Fire or my phone, I much prefer an e-reader. You can read that anywhere, but tablets aren't very readable outside or in the car on a sunny day. My husband has a Kindle Keyboard, and I just got the new Kindle Paperwhite a few days ago. I love it! It's lighted so can be read in a dark room as well as at
the beach.

I upgraded my NOOK from the first ne they had to the newer Color tablet last year. Now I am getting really tempted by the new 9" color HD+ version, especially now that the price has dropped dramatically. However, B&N is going to get out of the NOOK market soon, (if they survive at all), which leads to questions. I understand that another company has expressed interest in picking up the NOOK market and support, but have not heard any more about it. If te price drops much more, I may just spring for one anyway, and take my chances.

If I read books mostly from Amazon.com I'd probably get a Kindle. But I shop around for e-books so use my iPad for reading because I can buy just about every book available mostly from Apple iBooks, Amazon.com (Kindle Reader app) or Barnes & Noble (Nook Reader app). I have just about every other reader app but don't use them as much. I also use the Overdrive app for my local public library. For popular new release books they are all generally competitive but each company offers specials to beat the other and you jump on them. Also, surprisingly, each do have books the others don't and Amazon.com doesn't always have a lock.

DW and I spend two winter months a year in the Arizona desert. Prior to Kindle, we would spend the preceding ten months buying paperbacks at thrift stores so we would have some reading material whilst down there. This resulted in us taking many Walmart bags filled with books along with us, taking up space that could be put to better use. Now we spend the year filling our Kindles with hundreds of books, mostly free, that take up less space than one book.

One year, while in AZ, DW's Kindle stopped working. I contacted Amazon (it was still under warranty) and they overnighted a new one already configured with all the material that was on the defective one. In addition, it was a newer model as DW's had been discontinued. To top it off, they emailed a return label so I could return it to them free of charge.
