We have a King Quest dome and keep getting error code 771. We were told by King that the LNB needs to be replaced. have you had this problem?

Our LNB developed a small crack which I found after discovering water inside the plastic cover.

They can die electrically or mechanically
I had an 18" LNB quit when a small piece of plastic in the feed that determines polarity broke off. And last week out here in Quartzsite, replaced an SL5 multi-switch Feed when one of the F connectors, the one I,was using, came loose due to corrosion and it broke loose.

And I have seen them electrically just die. Rare but it happens

You can continue to IGNORE the excellent advice you are getting re making sure both the power and ground in the coax are not the issue and spend all that time and money messing with the actual dish first only to find out that was not the issue. I had a intermittent ground due to loose corroded coax connector and would get the 771 error randomly.

The LNB is not a DirecTV LNB. It is an LNB designed for the King Dome antenna. King Dome is correct that they rarely go bad but they do go bad. I have replaced dome style LNB's from most every manufacturer.
Removing, shipping and replacing the antenna should just be a matter of getting on the roof (if you are not comfortable then end the discussion here!) and unscrewing a couple of nuts and the coax connection. Ship the unit back, pay the hefty bill for repairs and shipping both ways and reinstall. Just be sure to compare the costs of repairs compared to replacement with a new unit with a new warranty.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

I had one fail too. Solid Signal will sell you one for $39 99. Cheap insurance and easier than dealing with DTV on the road. I carry a spare LNB, Power Inserter, and SWM switch with me just in case (I do like my HD TV).

Update--talked to 2 customer service reps and both said that LNB very rarely if ever go bad. they now want me to send the unit to them to be repaired. that is expecting a lot. we are in the florida keys and won't be home in Washington for a couple months. i guess they expect me to remove, ship back and then reinstall the replacement. That is all over my pay grade.

Had a bad LNB on a Weingard Dome, only 70 max. signal on a clear day and an other
LNB at the house failed after a nearby lightning strike.

How old is the dish? Does it have a center rotating coax connection? If so this can be your problem... not the LNB. You can bypass it with a 4' coax cable and see if it works. When this rotating connection broke for the third time I threw the POS off the roof.

We had it fail on our house in Colorado every winter when temps got lower than around 10*. We fought DTV for years on this until I talked with an acquaintance who was a tech. The failure was known and the newer LNB would not fail. He called DTV and had them replace it.

Just saying it might be due to temperature.

Like any electronic coonent they can and do fail. Less than 50 bucks should fix you up.
But, before spending the money have you checked the wiring? Connections? Setup?
