Is Artificial Intelligence swooping down on us?

OK, I've always been one of those who believed in the conspiracy theories: Yes, Elvis is still alive, JFK is living on an island in the Bahamas, Elvis Presley is really alive and well in Argentina!

So, I've been extremely skeptical of all this modern technology happening all around us, you know, "Serie?" "OK Google, I have a question? Do "Smart Televisions" really record the conversations occurring in your own home? If you have a Smart Refrigerator, is it recording everything in your kitchen?

Well, you all decide, but a very strange thing just happened to me.

OK, RV.net has been slow over the last several weeks, and I've been drawn into watching YouTube videos. I'm logged into my own account, and I've noticed how YouTube makes suggestions for new videos that you (or me) might find interesting, yes ... based upon your past viewing experiences.

But these two really take the cake!

My daughter and family recently moved to Hawaii. So, my wife started watching all these different shows on Netflix about Hawaii. She has her own account.

A couple days ago, I made a comment to a post where I used the word "T@B" tear drop travel trailers.

So, you know what? I'm now getting flooded with YouTube suggestions for videos on "T@B" tear drop travel trailers and videos about Hawaii.

Go figure?

And the future push is sell "Smart" RV's that are operated fully from a Smart Phone? Oh my!

wait till you get to some of the very secure sites that you want to get information from and get access to, SS access, USPS informed delivery, UPS to get package notification and some others. They go to great lengths to make sure you are whom you claim to be to grant access and set up an account. Up comes a list of multiple choice "questions" with about 5 choices like. select the previous city you lived in, and in my case that was from 40 years ago. A list of first names, select which one(s) are siblings names, select the name of city your mother was born in... select the year your father was born.... Select the citie(s) your siblings live in. Each time I've gone through this verification the questions were different, and seldom were questions directly about me, such as birth date, place I was born, etc. but about things it would take more than casual knowledge to obtain. information on parents, spouse, siblings, previous living locations, childrens occupations. select the name of a sibling living in a specific city......

Incredible how much detail is available on your life, and much of this is not from anything you may have entered on a website, it's likely from detailed public record searches.

Some of that information is pulled from public records (you can find the same info on those many public records search websites). The more secure sites will use info from your credit report.

Only have a smart phone cause it was the cheapest way to go. Keep most everything turned off on it unless I need it. Other than that I use my laptop for the internet and have stuff to block 95% of the garbage they track or throw. As for the other "smart" garbage out there, it will never be in my house...the more the complex the plumbing...the easier it is to fail.

I just logged into IncomeStore.com. We'll see what kinds of ads I get deluged with now.

The one that annoys me is Instagram shows me ads for things I've never searched for it typed in, but had verbal conversations about.

The more you use Google search or any “free” Google product, Bing/Explorer or any free Microsoft product, and to a lesser extent Apple Safari the more they collect and analyze (it’s more than just cookies) about your habits, location, interests. There are search engines that are quite good that do not track what you do. Look up duck duck go.

AI and other machine learning technologies are in everything these days and there is no real stopping the advances. At the moment there are very few decision making jobs that can’t be outsourced to a software product. Very few manufacturing jobs that can’t be done with a robot or other form of automation. If you want a fairly secure job learn to build things, repair things, and how to fix a toilet.

Don't know about AI, but I do know that Elvis is not living in Argentina.
I have seen him in Walmart recently.

Artificial Intelligence. like any technology, has its good and bad points.
I feel sorry for people that rely solely on their GPS for navigation. And, maybe they feel sorry for me because I can read maps or find my way without GPS?
