Laptop battery charger?

Dell laptop Inspiron a year or so old, but upgrades in HD and it works great, don't want to buy another laptop ...

The charging connector on the side where you plug in the cord from the 110v has little flat pins inside. The pins move around a little and lose connection frequently, and then it doesn't charge the battery properly. AND, when it's not in direct contact, the 110v doesn't work either. I'm absolutely positive it's the contact pins because when it fails, I use a blade and push the pins in alignment and it works every time ...

I bought a new cord first, but it's not the cord, it has the same charging issues with new and old cord.

Two things, first, eventually this will either break the pin off, or bend it so it won't work. Two, I don't care if it uses 110v as long as the battery works. But it won't charge the battery.

I can take this in, wait a week or so, and pick it up with new port.

I can buy another battery and a laptop battery charger and simply switch batteries.

I don't want to hang around a week extra, and wait, so would buy a external battery charger and extra battery, and use it on the road anyway. SO, that would be my choice if I can find a battery charger.

SO, what do I buy and where? Would be nice to have two batteries when on the road anyway.

Have always believed the connectors on a laptop should be better, and some kind of solid clip instead of 'slip on' for this very reason.

I had the Dell plug receptical replaced in mine at a computer shop for $35. He had one out of a Dell with a broken screen that worked fine.

If you will google "replacing power connector on Dell laptop Inspiron", you will find at least 3 you tube video's on how to repair your laptop. Even if you don't want to do it yourself, you'll have a better idea of what is involved.

I've repaired our two toshiba laptops power connectors at home without problems.

Good luck

I had a laptop, think it was Sony, where the battery port (where you plug in the cord) failed. It is expensive to fix. Before I realized it was a broken port I tried a new laptop AC cord, but of course, that did not fix my problem.
You can price a port repair, but it may be expensive.

I would get the Dell fixed.

I will, when I can, but everyone wants me to leave it for a week (or so) and I can't do that right now.

Besides, I keep getting a run-around on that repair. I have to send it to Dell ... or accept a 'some other brand' which doesn't fit the proprietary connection.

Spare battery and charger solves the problem, AND gives me a spare when I have no shore power to charge it.

Strollin - Yes, saw it ... and discovered they have a store near us, so will go and check it out. Thanks for info ... would like to actually touch one and check it in person ... so will go this weekend.

Strollin - you are correct.

The power adapter connection is failed. So, an external laptop charger will allow me to charge more than one battery and switch back and forth between two batteries, charge one and use one.

But I can't find that kind of item anywhere ... I can find batteries, not a charger. Must be available, as someone makes everything it seems. But maybe I'm asking for it and it has some odd name?

I posted a link to a charger for Dell Inspiring above. Did you miss it?

Try searching for external battery chargers. Here's a link for one on amazon for a dell inspiron 1525 etc.

I just bought a genuine Dell charger for my Inspiron for less than $15 on Amazon. If you buy one from Dell they are like $50-60 but used and new ones are readily available from Amazon and other vendors.

I don't think you are talking about what monkey44 wants. Monkey44 wanted a battery charger that charged the battery separately from his laptop, I think you are referring to the laptop power adapter.

They sell external battery chargers. I don't have any experience with them but here's a possibility: External Battery charger for Inspiron

Yeah, lots of things (Lance plugs for example) fit that proprietary category.

But, it's pretty annoying, a PC is not an inexpensive purchase, yet a peanut part like this renders the PC worthless and useless unless this 'minor part' can be repaired easily.
