Looking for an all in one computer with 23" screen, WIFI capable with an SSD hard drive. Don't need a super rig don't play games. Old one just old and slow like me. Kinda like the look of Dell models. Would like to stay under $1500. Looked at many but can't seem to zero in on one. Guess we'll have to go with 8.1. Would appreciate any recommendations.

And some PC owners aren't quite so quick to take such offense. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not everyone is as crazy about Apple as some people think they should be. And I have met a couple people who have Ipads and Iphones but have no desire to own a Apple computer. They've used them and don't care for them. Just personal preference.

"If you choose a Mac just make sure you have a lot of Mac friends. Those that I know that have a Mac don't & wish they did. All computers compute."

Sorry but that ridiculous statement simply does NOT compute. :S

Having a Mac has nothing to do with what others own. I have never met anyone with a Mac that would ever go back to a PC. If you like spending big bucks on BS security software (since your PC is under constant attack), enjoy your vulnerability. Yep, all computers compute but some (like the Mac's), don't come with a bullseye on their back.

Pick any desktop that has a 23" screen.

Buy an SSD and negotiate so they transfer the OS (windows) to the SSD as a primary boot up device and the HDD as a secondary.

20 second boot up times.

Your only concern then is to remember that all installs except the OS get pointed to the HHD & not the SSD.

6 to 8 GB's ram, SSD and any CPU created within the past 24 months will do what you have asked.

If you choose a Mac just make sure you have a lot of Mac friends. Those that I know that have a Mac don't & wish they did. All computers compute.

A $350 (monitor extra) machine with an extra $100 SSD will out perform 90% of all machines used today.

Mu opinion is based upon supporting a lot of elders with PC's.
I charge nothing & I even pick up & deliver locally.
Elders need to be part of today's world too.

IMHO.

I'm on my second HP all in one computer. This one (HP Pavilion 23 all in one) is a great machine. I didn't get the touch screen ($100.00 more) but it has a remote key board and mouse. I bought it at Walmart and with the extended warranty, I paid $707.00. The first one I bought at Best Buy 4 years ago and paid $900.00+ but it had the touch screen which I never used, except to see how it worked. I think a touch screen would be OK on a laptop but on a desktop you are too far away to make it easy to use.

I also bought Microsoft Office 365 after the trial period, I wouldn't do that again. Main problem is the Outlook mail program.

That's my 2 cents worth.

As a Mac aficionado maybe you can recommend a Mac that will work well with the latest FPS or RP games. I've not had much luck. And something that is easily upgradable when the games again outstrip the hardware.

I'm not a gamer or a Mac aficianado (though a Mac is what O would recommend to the OP, who pointedly said he is NOT a gamer), but OS X FPS games, or RPG ganes, or heck, even gasp, :inux games.

But, for someone who wants quality hardware, with an OS that just works, I agree an iMac is ideal.

Me either, I've not spent a dime on anti-virus software either, or had a security/hack issue. But I've only been at it for 15 years instead of 5. ๐Ÿ™‚ Just lucky I guess. But YMMV.

Sorry, can't help with that as I have never been a gamer. I bet the folks at the Mac store could point you in the right direction.

When it comes to free advice you get what you paid for however....

Just get the Mac that best meets your needs, lots of choices. I cannot believe people still are putting up with all of the nonsense that comes with a PC. After 5 years not one security/hack issue and not a dime on BS anti virus software. Yep, it's true.... once you get a Mac you won't go back. (and yes we love our i Phones (5S and 6+).

As always.... Opinions and YMMV.

Fortunately, Hardware has made dramatic improvements over the years. Actually, many of the all in one's (AIO) are very easy to work on these days. Hardware in them is pretty much what you find in today's laptops.. Quite reliable at that. As for touch screen.... UNLESS, you are old and very set in your ways, using a decent touchsreen is a real pleasure. Also changed is pricing on touchscreens... cost of same is down.

I have worked with touch screens for 20+ years.. As of right now touch screens FIELD REPLACEMENTS represent about 65% of the failures of my companies equipment (used in 24/7/365 operation year round)..

After dealing with them at work it is the last thing I wish to do at home.. But it is hard to convince younger folk that are used to fingering a 4"-10" phone/tablet screens that moving your hand over 20"-30" screen is not really efficient or easy on your hand and arm..

Most folk after they get a touch screen PC and use it for awhile tend to add a mouse and quit using the touch screen once the novelty wears off.

Touch screens have come down in price but they still are considerably more expensive than a non touch.. You can buy a 27" non touch screen for $100 but a touch version of the same size sets you back $300..

I have a 24" Lenovo all-in-one and it has been very good so far. No issues and it's about 3 years old. The touch screen is pretty handy until you need to really do something, but ours came with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

Not a speed machine or powerhouse, but it gets the job done.
