I just bought the new King Control Tailgater. What ideas do people have for securing these portables so they don't walk off?

One way to make sure it won't walk away is to lock it down. I would not leave my generator out unsecured nor would I leave the portable satellite out. That said I think the portable Sat needs a program box and a subscription for it to work. Not as easy to sell as a Generator but why leave it to temptation...I also lock my doors...

No one has bothered our tailgater but we camp pretty remote. They do make a window mount for them but I've never seen one in use. I have seen a number of both the tailgaters and tripod dishes on the ground.

Everywhere I have been over the past year I have not seen any of the hundreds of various satellite dishes locked up at RV parks and campgrounds I have been in. I am thinking these kinds of thefts are very rare.

Master Locks now makes a real neat 'adjustable' able lock.

So no matter where the hitchin post is you need to lock it to, the cable adjusts for the length to it and holds the cable tight.

Gives you more options for securing an item than the cables of only one length that don't always fit the situation you need them for. Pretty Slick.

I don't do anything, if they want it I guess they can take it. We have 4 Cannondale mountain bikes, kayaks, grills, lots of stuff so I can't worry about someone stealing my stuff. I go camping to get away and not worry. I have thought about it but we have too much stuff to lock it all down.

Ours is tethered and padlocked to whatever is close enough. Most of the time it's on the roof and locked to the ladder. Never had a problem with it blowing away. I tether it close to the ladder so if it does blow over, it won't go far.

I use a heavy coated cable with good locks. The new Tailgaters are better for securing because you can put the cable through the handle. The old Tailgaters had a small plastic padlock mount that could be easily broken...

When I leave the site I don't leave it out or anything else for that matter...

My thought is, know your surroundings but but carry and big cable and padlock!

When I actually saw a Tailgater on the top of an RV, I asked the owner how he kept it up there. He said "Velcro, but I take it down to drive."

If your in west Texas or northern Colorado where there are sustained high winds, yes it can be a problem.

Never had a problem with the wind moving it either on the ground or on the roof.

I secured our SAT DISH setup to the fold-a-cover hard folding panel covers on my truck bed. This made us put the SAT DISH away when we left the camp ground...

Never left unattended...

I really did not see it as something likely to walk off. But just to avoid any hassle I did buy a plastic coated steel dog tie out cable at Home Depot and two small padlocks. I wrap one end of the cable around a tree, stabilizer, or what ever else may be close that is at least semi-unmoveable.

We use the same cable RV2go uses. DH started putting it on one of the slides because that got it out of the way.........that was until that one infamous day he hadn't had time to move the ladder out of the way and I started the slides in......and well, you know the rest of the story. Let me put it this way --- DH has the patience of a saint and can fix anything....including half crushed ladders :B :B
