We are part timers traveling in a travel trailer 5 6o 6 months each year. We would like to know if there are special plans with Dish or Direct where you can temporarily dc your monthly payment when not traveling. I saw such a plan several years ago. Thanks for any advice or assistance. Hope you all are enjoying good weather, good friends and good camping.

I can tell you on DirecTV and extra box only costs $5 a month with a duplicate of all the programming you have in the house. I personally find it easier just to have a box in the motorhome and leave it activated all the time.

When you can't choose a provider you post a question on rv.net. When you post a question on rv.net you get conflicting answers. When you get conflicting answers you yell at DW. When you yell at DW you wish you never heard of tv!Don't regret hearing about tv. DRINK!!

DW got fed up with Direct customer service and must keep the DW happy. Got a Tailgater that we can use at home, down south in the winter and on the road. Works great and easy. So Dish it is. And we get the Denver local and 4! outdoor channels.

Hi, Longtime DirecTV user here so I may be predigest. I've used brother-in-law's Dish TV a few times. I don't see any difference in the reception but I do like the user interface for DirecTV better. Other comparisons of the 2 services on here seem to find DISH customer service people rude and stupid but my experience with DirecTV is you can find both. Just depends on who happens to take your call.

One other observation, most satellite dishes I see in RV parks are DirecTV not Dish, maybe 70% / 30% mix or more.

Not - "maybe", LOL!

You can take your home receiver on the road with either service.

Dish has an RV program - turn service on/off as needed, which is great *if* you don't want to have one or the other at home.
Also an excellent portable, HD, automatic (relatively inexpensive) sat dish for DISH. (Check on "Tailgater")

OP - go to, and search the- *Technology Corner* FORUM (here) -for LOTS more info.

Another good source for lots of info is - *here*

Been with DirecTV a looooong time (and taking home receiver on the road), but Dish is looking better all the time!..:W

Directv and maybe Dish uses spot beam coverage for the local channels. If you get to far away from your home area you loose the locals. They allow two service location switches per year for snowbirders. They also have Distance Network Services where you can get the major channels from either NY or LA. This requires filing RV registration documents with them and take up to 6 weeks to set up the first time.

If you are near metro areas then HDTV off the air for locals is pretty good.

Check with dishformyrv.com. They have an RV plan where you can start/stop service on a monthly basis.
I have Dish at home so I have the dishformyrv.com RV add-on to the home account for an extra $7/mo.
Have had Dish for many years at home and 2 years in the RV and am very happy with both.
Have never had direct so can't comment on it.
