23 minute dump time?

So we're new to this, and have only been out a half-dozen times. Yesterday at the dump station, the fella in front of us took 23 minutes.

Since I'm done in under 5 minutes, I got to wondering. Is that atypical? Did I just happen to find the spot behind a guy with a 1/8" dump pipe?

I'm not sure how much was real dump time either.

He seemed to enjoy walking away to the other side of the trailer and staring off at the mountains. Yeah, they were especially pretty that morning, but still...

You are correct.

But with a little introspection, you'd see that when you guys tell me to "Chill; don't sweat the smalls stuff; 23 minutes is fine; I'm not going to rush" when then your just saying "It's all about ME." aren't you?

I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to rush on my account.

But I sure as heck wouldn't appreciate anyone behaving inconsiderately either.

Do the math you bozos, 23 minutes is beyond inconsiderate, it's just plain stupid.

Even if the campground was a miniscule 40 sites it's a 15 hour wait.

I can see you are one with the attitude that IT's ALL ABOUT ME.

23 minutes is not being inconsiderate.

Ahem. We aren't bozos. You do the math. Not everybody leaves at the same time. Not everybody leaves on the same day. Not everybody uses the dump station. Not everybody takes 23 minutes. Your scenario goes beyond improbable to just plain inane. You are absolutely correct about the "it's all about me" attitude but it goes for you, too. I'm not going to rush because YOU want me to.

It won`t be one of us rushing you, it will be one of the other 30 RV`ers behind one of us! has anyone ever been run out of a dump area due to unnecessary dump time! I can see this happening by how everyone seems to think it`s perfectly acceptable for a 23 minute dump station time! Like I said before you get 2 or 3 people that take 23 minutes to dump and your looking at a 69 minute wait if your 4th in line. sure the probability of it happening is small, but it can happen. and it may be you (generalization) that is 4th in line. then we`ll see how quickly that type of thinking does a 180!

23 minutes...which tells me you were really impatient. I can see someone saying this guy took about 20 or 25 minutes. But to be precise at 23 minutes, tells me you were watching the clock. What did the guy do to take so long? Did he dump, refill, dump again? Flush it out? Some people like their tanks clean.

Unless there are any rules posted, I don't think it should matter how long they take. You either wait or leave and dump elsewhere. That's part of many sites sharing one dump station. Don't fret, you may come across this again.

I'm gonna have to go with this as well. Even though I don't use the dump station. That is what FHU sites are for. however, IF I was to use the dump station. I would dump, rinse. Fill, dump and rinse again. then put 5 or so gallons of water in the black tank with the chemicals, and then dump the grey. I don't have a dump at home. So it has to be clean before I leave the CG. I figure few others do as well. So take your time, and do it right.

I know what some of you are thinkin. He don't go to primitive campgrounds. But I do. And when I do. We use the CG facilities. Why? you ask? Because I DON'T go to the dump station. Just not going to do it.

And in truth. If a person doesn't have time to wait. They should have left earlier.

I would have to agree with Terryallan, wbwood and others. If a person doesn't have time to wait, they should have left earlier or continue to another dump station on there journey.

The line at the dump station is just another reason I enjoy the USFS campgrounds in Montana!
It is not a problem because there is no dump station in the majority of those campgrounds!
I seldom have to wait for the dump station at Cabela's in Billings, although I have had to wait while a durnfool tourist spent $50 shopping to avoid the $5 dump fee!

Seriously? Would 45 minutes be ok?
Yes...especially if no one is waiting.
Of course, take hours if you need to.

I avoid dump stations on a Sunday morning because I'd rather not wait behind 4 guys taking 10 minutes each, with that 23 minute guy thrown in. Just because I'm retired and I have the time, that doesn't change my desire to get something done and get on the road. That said, I don't leave at 8am either, it's more like 9, when it's more likely not to be busy.

When you go to the grocery store I'm pretty sure you try to find the shortest line with the fewest groceries. I won't stand in line behind 8 others at a Starbucks either.

I always stay at FHU parks. I have to have 30A for medical equipment, but since I'm a single RVer, I don't need to dump the black and grey tanks daily. So I don't. I do carry 2 each 30A electric, fresh water hoses and slinkies. I've needed both exactly once in over ten years. But if you're a foot short with just one...

Good news is that there was no one behind us, so the line length was "just me" and I wasn't in any hurry. I genuinely wanted to know if I should expect about 5 mins a vehicle or more.

He just reminded me of those folks we all get behind in the grocery store. The ones that wait until all of their groceries are bagged and *then* they'll put out their checkbook.

Me, I have everything on the check filled in, and ready except the amount. Driver's license ready to go. 🙂

Don't you just hate waiting behind someone using a check?

I mean, you may see some of them think they are being faster by having the check filled out minus the amount and getting out their drivers license, but really, in this day and age?

They have to write out the amount in two places (one numerical, the other text) and hand the check and DL to the clerk. The clerk has to select pay by check on their console, and either has to verify the DL number on the check or write it on there, verify the amount, enter it on their console, then put it into their MICR reader that takes 4 or 5 passes assuming it can read the check, and then it prints their info on the check. If they are using electronic check conversion, the clerk has to hand the check back to them, and their information was taken just as if they had used a debit card but in a much longer transaction. Plus, their printed account numbers, DL number, address, name and other information is just sitting there waiting to be stolen.

Using a debit card requires swiping the card, entering a 4 digit PIN, and pushing yes or selecting cash back and entering the amount and hitting enter. It's so much faster.

If they aren't comfortable with that, they can use one of the new credit cards with a chip. Insert it into the reader, 5 to 10 seconds later you are walking to the door.

Or you can just sit back and think of them like the person at the dump station. 🙂

:?

Wow pretty harsh words from some one that does not even use the dump station.:(

It is RV "common courtesy" at the dump station when there is a line that you get in dump and get out and/or move up so the next person in line can use the station. It really is that simple. Taking 23 minutes to dump and do whatever else that person was doing IS too long period.

Not if you do it right. Takes me longer than that EVERY time. Takes you that long too, IF you actually wash out your tank. Time yourself next time. 25 min is nothing.

BTW. One of the CGs we frequent has the dump station on the way out. Often they block the road when dumping. A couple drove by us as we were pulling out of our site, and stopped and dumped a Blue sewer tote. Took them 15 to 20 min to dump and rinse the tote. DW and I didn't get burned about it. We just sat and waited. Had I left 5 min earlier, I wouldn't have had to wait. So it was my fault, not theirs.
