I was 5 when my folks bought our first TT. Then 6 when they upgraded to a 20 footer. My dad was a teacher so we camped 4-6 weeks every summer.

I'm 36, wife is 34 we just bought our first, a 1995 Terry 23' 5er. Two kids and a dog.

Tent camped until 1970 when we bought a '70 3/4 ton Ford van. Installed sleeping arrangements and table. In 1973 we bought a Starcraft popup from my brother. Put new canvas, heater, water tank, and 12volt lighting. Used that until 1979 when we bought a new Starcraft popup. This popup had a forced air furnace with 12volt lighting. Installed a small refrigerator that slid into the ice box space. Also installed a solar cell to charge the battery as we stayed in primitive camp grounds. In 1991 bought a 1985 HR class C from a friend. Used that until 1999 when we bought a new HR class A. We still have the class A. We are now 75 years "young."

I'm 47 and the DW is an undisclosed age - but younger than me ๐Ÿ™‚

We just ordered our first camper - we both camped as kids, she in a trailer, me in a tent. We can't wait to give our two kids DS(7) and DD(5) the same experiences.

This is definitely worth quoting!

Seems like after reading thru this good thread late 30's early 40's might be the turning point.

I was 36 and the DW was 34. After all of the years of tent camping we started out with a 2000 Shasta 21 ft. 5th wheel. It served its purpose for 8 great years with the 2 boys. We just moved up to 2012 Cougar 32 ft. Now we are down 1 boy since the oldest just graduated from college 2 days ago and is now off into the real world. I guess we will still allow him to stay in it with us if he wants to though, at least for a while!!:)

I had never been camping in my life until I met BF and went camping in a tent with him and his teenaged daughter at 38. I hated it. BF had been tent camping his whole life, and he just didn't understand why I didn't enjoy peeing in the woods and getting poison oak on my hiney! I went tent camping twice and swore to never ever do it again. I am 44 now and BF is 43, and in January, we bought a new to us Class C and absolutely LOVE it. Now, when he says, "Let's go camping!", I'm out the door faster than he is.

Did camping on and off during my teen years, but due to a festival, I tent camped for two years every weekend from Jan-April starting 2010. Bought a TT late 2011, which has been very nice. Am currently looking for a "B" as a touring/weekend vehicle right now.

Let's see, I was 32 when I switched from wife 1 to wife 2 (DW). Never even thought about camping up till then. DW's family had always camped, so here we go.

Tent camping with 4 kids (2+2) from 32 to 44 (DW 29 to 41) (storm clouds followed us)
used Jayco popup at 44 (DW 41) better weather, still seemed small
new Fleetwood travel trailer at 48 (DW 45) loved it, but stored it outside, bad idea
new Primetime LaCrosse at 56 (DW 53) 3 trips in, loving it so far.

I camped a few times as a kid in my Grandpa's TT, the neighbors Class A and on church campouts in tents or cabins.

When I was 32 and DH was 40, DDs were 10 and 14 we bought our first TT, a 28 foot with a slide. We had a blast in that! Three years later we had major life changes (read: husband lost job and we almost lost everything) and we sold it.

Now we just bought a new to us 2005 21' TT from a good friend who has babied it but can no long use it due to health issues.

We're so excited to get back to it again! Kids are now grown and in college but they want to go with us on weekend trips if they can carve out the time. Some of their best memories are of our camping trips when they were younger.
