If you were to buy a new RV, would you pay for this option? Or is this just a waste of money?

This year my awning was out during a rain storm. Water collected faster than I realized, and ended up bending my roller. It's still useful, but wobbles as it comes out and retracts. What I noticed was that my awning is quite long, When I have to change it out (can you buy just the roller tube?) i've been considering two shorter units to cover both doors (currently only one door), and each individual awning would be shorter and possibly have less chance to hold so much water. This is only my 2nd year, so not sure if my thinking is good on this one.

Since you're going with New Horizons you might want to consider window awnings, also. We actually use them more than the big awning especially if we're on the move.

Like others I wouldn't buy a camper without one but I would definitely only have a manual awning. I have had both and prefer the manual because you can change the angle better which allows you to hide from the rain better. My current 20 foot power awning only goes straight out. If the wind blows very hard I get wet while I'm grilling.

We use our awning on every trip. Press a button and its out in 15 seconds what could be easier. It I know rain is coming I'll tilt the.awning to the rear for drainage.
We also use an EZ UP canopy to sit down by the lake. The EZ UP are very strong. I had to pull ours out of a tree Saturday morning after the wind blew it across the backyard and 10' up into a tree. Amazingly no damage.

Having an awning adds to your personal space. With out the awning it seems that you are sitting out in the middle of a field. With an awning you have a room. We also have a Patty O'Shade which adds to the effect.

Actually, while at it, is there any awning manufacturer that builds a particularly good awnings?

For those who are wondering which RV has the optional awning, I'm considering going with New Horizon for their 5th wheel, so I can pretty much specify what I want. I was curious if those awnings are a gimmick or they actually are useful. Sounds like they are. Thanks everyone for commenting your experiences!

What kind of "new RV" has an awning as an "option"? :h

I agree!
I've heard or seen of any "optional" awning unless it was some unusual RV.

to the OP, what RV are you looking at that has an optional awning?

If parked with the awning away from the wind no worries. With the last job relocation I stayed full time just a few miles from the coast with the street side of the trailer facing southwest, and the awning side facing northeast. I had some good ground anchors and tied it down, it stayed out for over 1 year without issue, I did use a step ladder and washed it frequently along with washing the trailer. X2 on it keeping cooler, morning sun on that side and it helped a lot.

When I was finishing up the rehab of our trailer I came close to not putting the awning back on. I'm VERY glad I reinstalled it. I can't imaging we won't be using it every time we go out now. I would certainly pay for it as an option.

We wouldn't be without one, and we also have awnings over our 2 slides. We wouldn't be without those either.
