Surprises with First NEW TT

This is my 3rd Trailer, but the first NEW trailer.

I was surprised that it didn't come with a Clean Water hose. They told me that I wouldn't get my septic hose, but I got a $50 gift card to purchase the one I wanted from their store...so no big deal. But to find out after getting home and doing another walk through that it didn't come with a clean water hose was a surprise.

Also found it interesting that I bought a 50amp trailer but they gave me a 30amp to 15amp adapter. I called them and asked if I could get the 50amp to 30amp adapter that actually fits my trailer and was told "oh, you have to buy that separate". I guess I wouldn't assume a $30k investment would come with an adapter that doesn't even work without me buying something else to make it work. I am really nervous that I got the incorrect spare tire as well and that I need to buy the correct tire. (being sarcastic)..

Is that just me or did anyone else experience this? It's my fault that I didn't ask better questions in my walk through... just thought it was strange that they didn't tell me about the other items and must have mentioned about 5 times from the RV show to the Walk Through how I needed to purchase my Septic hose separate.

I'd rather have the $50 certificate than a bunch of junky stuff I'll have to replace by next season.

I was surprised how sparse our starter kit was, it did not include a freshwater hose as well. What's more important from our standpoint is we got a great deal, they were really prepared for the PDI, and they correctly installed our Reese WD/SC hitch. Their store didn't carry many accessories, no problem as Camping World and Walmart had everything we needed and it was fun to shop for them. Have many great trips in your new Jayco!!!

Have purchased 3 brand new travel trailers within 10 years. all purchased from different dealerships....never got a water hose! Ironically, when we purchased a used year old unit, dealership gave us a Lafuma recliner, a nice grill + a starter kit!

When we bought the trailer we got a starter kit. Came in a 5 gallon bucket. Still carry that bucket in the trailer. Used the TP, hose is still coiled up( I don't like Chinese plastics), can't remember what else came in the kit.

With the TT we got a $100 or $200 gift card to buy what we needed. With the motorhome that was priced 3 times as much as the TT, we got a basket with a plastic table cloth, a potato chip bag clip and a couple of other cheap things. My in laws gave a starter kit they were given when they bought their $00k + Monaco years ago. And like another said, cheap throw away hoses and toilet paper. I keep them in the camper as a back up though.

My dealer gave me 50 to 30 amp adapters on the last two new Rvs I bought. I was never given a water hose nor did I expect one. Outfitting an RV is not cheap, however Walmart is a good place to start for decent sewer hose & fittings, electrical cord adapters, etc.. Many items (wheel checks, leveling blocks, larger ticket items, etc) I buy online such as amazon.

Remember. you are just buying a RV, and not the accessories. Often they will give you a few things, like chairs, grills, starter kits, or awning matts. But those as mentioned are just thank you for buying stuff.

Buy from Tom Johnson, and you get a fruit basket a week later, and a free camping weekend during their big fall camp party.

Starter kits are a courtesy from the dealer, not required. Although they are a nice little "token" gift, they are usually very inexpensive items, and just what they are intended for ... "starter". If you get one use out of any of it, you're lucky. Consider your "starter" gifts as samples what you need to get for your own style of camping. I've purchased 1 PUP and 3 different TT's now, and never got a water hose.

Perfect way to put it. Standard practice. The nice thing is, you'll be able to keep a lot, if not most, of the items you buy and transfer them to any subsequent new (or used) RVs. 🙂

I would be happier buying my own and taking that 50.00 gift card and buying something like the amp meter that you plug into an outlet to see how much power you are drawing. When we bout our 5er, We got a 35.00 card and a route 66 discount card and it gives us a 10% discount for any little things we need like side marker lens or buying a new anode rod for the water heater, etc. Of course the dealers have their store inventory prices higher than say Walmart for the same item like a sewer connections.

Wow.. this is all great to know now. Here I spent the weekend disappointed in my service. I guess now I know this is "standard practice". Guess I can stop shaking my head when I see emails and letters coming from them congratulating me on my new purchase.

We bought our first TT last year and were also a little surprised but not completely taken off guard by the lack of items but more so by the cost of it all. Our dealer was really great though in helping us fine tune our list. We also got all of our items at a substantial discount the day we picked it up.

My dealer just gave me a decent price, excellent service both in warranty and out, and a gift certificate to his parts and accessories store.

I'm glad he didn't give me any junky "starter" kit.

I would buy better quality anyways.
