TT prep question

We just purchased a new TT and are in the process of outfitting it. Besides cooking equipment and normal hand tools what other things would we need to get started? Our first outing will be a one night local trip to learn some things before we start going out for longer trips. TIA.

Extra fuses and light bulbs. Switched all our lights to leds which helps.

A filter is optional.

A water filter has been an essential item for us!! Unless you know the quality of water going into your rig at all times. Such as if you only fill up at home and only use the water in your rig (which some do). If you are using campground water (which we do all the time) some kind of filter is really important. You can't really tell just by looking as it comes out whether the water has problems or not. A filter can prevent a lot of problems, and its really not that much harder.

OK, here is an update. We did a test camp at a local RV park over a weekend. It went well, only thing we didnt have was leveling blocks, but we didnt need them after moving the trailer over a couple of feet, since then we have bought them so we should be good. We did learn a lot, 1 thing was I wish i had found this forum before we bought the trailer. We bought a trailer just under max tow weight for my truck, That truck was struggling at highway speed so I had to go get a bigger truck (**** the bad luck). Now we are all good. We are leaving for the Keys in a couple of days for an extended weekend.
Thanks again for all the help and info.

Don't go overboard buying stuff for the TT. A couple chairs a few pots, and pans, Sewer hose and fresh water hose. Towels, sheets, and blankets. Along with your clothes. Pretty much all you will need to start. You can add, and take away stuff as you learn.

BTW. A small torpedo level is a must

Living in your camper is really no different than living in your house, except it's smaller, and storage space is less. There's really nothing different. If you think about your daily activities, these are the things you need in the camper. You do need to think of the logistics of the camper, something you do not have to deal with at home. But there is a breakdown of the various "components" you need to make sure you have covered (not in any particular order):

1. Your personal hygine: (everything from tooth paste to bath towels)

2. Your cook ware (what are you using to prepare your means with? Over a fire, propane Coleman camp stove, Stove top in the camper? Electric frying pan or electric griddle? Just eating out every meal?)

3. Your dinner ware. Paper, plastic, China, Corell ware, plastic spoons or grandma's antique china and priceless silverware? Cups or glasses, or Dixie cups or "Red Solo Cups", paper towel, napkins, or "shop towels from Lowes .... which by the way work wonderful in the kitchen!

4. Your bedding for the camper? Electric blankets, pillows, sheets, or just sleeping bags? No right or wrongs, whatever you use at home, it's OK to use in the camper.

5. Cleaning supplies? Dish soap, Bleach, Laundry Soap? Scouring powder, toilet bowl cleaners? Mop, broom, dustpan, vacuum sweeper? (we recently started taking our robot-vacuum sweeper with us. Works wonderful!)

6. Outside furniture? Lawn chairs, (what kind), do you have a collapsible
hammock? Stand alone outside tables? anything else? Your choice, your world, what works good for you?

7. Logistics for your camper? Whatever it takes to set up your camper? Everything from sewer hoses, to boards or Lynx blocks for under the tires and jacks, electric 30 or 50 amp cords for the camper, water hoses, pressure regulators, level. Anything you need to set up and stabilize your camper.

8. Mechanical repair. A sampling of break down tools. Only YOU can decide what you "think" you may need. There is at least ONE tool you must have: Crank handle for your jacks.

9. Entertainment. This is strictly a personal choice. That could include everything from a golf cart to a deck of cards, bicycle to game of Monopoly, a good book to a bazillion dollar computer system, chalk for the kids to create a hop-skotch path on the asphalt to a camera or a bazillion manification telescope for star gazing, to a swim suit to scuba gear! It your choice what you consider 'entertainment.'

But these are the categories you have to compartmentalize "outfitting" your camper!

It does not need to cost a lot of money. You can initially use items from your own home. You can purchase items from any store, grocery store, department store, shopping mall, outlet store, even yard sales and rummage sales, Goodwill, and Wallmart, as well as the internet on-line shopping, or specialty stores, RV stores, or anywhere.

You may want to pick up some items specific for camping, like hotdog sticks, grills for over a fire, fire-tripods for hanging dutch oven (cast iron) pots from, or any number of things. IT ALL DEPENDS UPON YOUR WANTS, WISHES, NEEDS, AND WANTS, AND HOW COMFORTABLE YOU WANT TO BE. And one very important thing to remember..... there are NO RIGHT's or WRONG's when you go camping. It's YOUR experience, no one else's. So make all your "outfitting" uniquely YOU! And YOU WILL be a happy camper.

Thinking about the items I bought at the campground store my first time out...
Barbecue lighter for the stove.
Fresh water hose.
Separate hose for the black tank flush.
Small flashlight to walk around the campground after dark.
Toilet paper. Do NOT forget the toilet paper.

Have fun!

Start with the absolute minimum, and take a notepad. Keep a running list of things you see that you need. What you need will be unique from everyone else, and depends on your style of camping.

A broom, dustpan, and small rug inside and outside the door are very helpful.

Congratulations. May you make many many memories. Took us about a year to stock the camper as needed and be able to find it at the right time. Not sure why anyone would need a drill to lower stabalizers. Just turn the provided crank. Preference I suppose. May I suggest marshmellow roasters, a fresh water pressure regulator mounted to the faucet end, camp chairs, UNO card game, plenty of camera space and a sense of humor & adventure. Let us know how it goes please

The etiquette section should be required reading for ALL campers!

And zip ties.

Don't need a whole roll of tape or giant box of zip ties. The half roll in your shop is likely more than enough, and a dozen zip ties of varying sizes will be sufficient. If by any unusual circumstance you need more, ask your CG neighbor. RVers tend to be a neighborly bunch, always willing to help a new friend. To pay for the item a cold beer is considered legal currency among RVers.
