These older main roads are usually the most interesting to travel.

Orlando was small.I lived on a one-block two lane street that rated a traffic light at a longer two-lane street. I loved to bounce on my bike over the pressure switch and make the cars stop.

What would become International Drive was _dirt_.

Orlando didn't really count, other than Pinecastle AFB.

So seriously, Orlando was just a wide spot where US441, US17 and US 92 crossed.

It was so nice before Walt ruined it all.

Orlando Florida must have been small back then. Not even on the map.

I went to Florida this way also in 1956 in my fathers Ford station wagon with no A/C, we drove all the way down to Key West and fished off the US 1 bridge, it was a memorable trip. Even Miami was not crowded at that time.

Michigan had Interstates way before 1955....

I know because I drive on them all the time and there is no way they are only 63 years old!!!

I love pre-Interstate routes. I remember our family vacations traveling on US highways, especially US41, US30, and US6. Thanks for sharing!

I found this picture of the Wisconsin dells area looking west fron rte.16 and 12. looks like something is missing in the background?

Very neat in a lot of ways.

I find it interesting that of all the State Parks in Michigan, Interlochen and Mackinac are the two the map maker chose to list.
