About to retire but need some advice

Looking to retire within next 2 years.

Traveling with a one ton dually and 5th wheel but also contemplating going to Class A.

I work with the DOD as a Parts Manager. Would rate my computer skills above average due to nature of my work.

So the advice I am looking for is what are realistic possibilities of finding some type of telecommute work, once I retire that will provide some additional income, while we enjoy the retirement years on the road.

We are thinking of doing some Workamping after our first year of retirement, but would also like to supplement that with some telecommuting work.

Any realistic possibilities or advice.
Blessed beyond what we deserve.

Not being smart a$$ or mean spirited but IMO if you need to work for extra income it's not time to retire. Wife and I both retired at 56 and everyone said we would be back out in workforce in a year or going nuts at home. Haven't looked back once and can hardly remember working now. Don't quit that good paying job until you are ready to quit working! JMO Enjoy your retirement, whenever it starts.

So, doing it your way I shouldn't retire from my construction job of 25 years to work with my wife in the BBQ vending trailer we own?

If you are working with your wife because you want something to do then I can understand that. If you are doing it because you need the money then I would stay where I make the most for every hour I spend working.(as long as you are physically able to continue that work) That's just my opinion.
I didn't work because I wanted to make friends or because I liked it, I worked to make the most money I could, as quickly as I could and then quit.

I retired in 2010 and DH retired in 2012. We have daughters that are 12 and 9, so we stay put during school time. During school breaks throughout the year and during the summer, we travel. We camp host in two different states- 2 months in VA and 1 month in MD.

That allows us to camp, but also to see the sites in/around the campgrounds. We eat what we would have eaten at home, so no additional costs there; we are required to put in 15-20 hrs per adult in the parks, so that gives us things to do, the girls participate in all the offerings of the parks - jr. ranger programs, pools, crafting classes, etc.

It is a wonderful life and it's not expensive. We do our "vacation" during the off times of school in either fall break or spring break when we go on a cruise.

We have some rental property with upkeep that gives DH some things to do during the winter months. It also brings in a little bit of extra $$, after taxes, insurance, upkeep costs.

I retired in 2007 at 55, because of the economy my investments haven't paid out as much as I hoped. When I turn 65 next year I be able to start receiving addition retirement checks. My points is, the way companies treat their employees nowadays, I'd live in a tent before I'd go back to work at an entry level job.

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question. I am retired but not full a full timer. Maybe 1/2 timer. I was blessed that I could retire from the DOD in Dec 2011 when I was just 56. When DW and I are home we work as substitute teachers to help make money for future trips. 2017 and 2018 is funded and we are working on 2019 now. We also volunteer at some of the Georgia State Parks so that we can camp more often. We have a nice little egg nest saved but would rather use it somewhere down the road.
So if you want to work a little go ahead. There is nothing wrong with that.

We also found that volunteering for our site and utilites was much better than working for a pittance of wages and being treated like children. The forestry service , county park and nature park where we have volunteered have always treated us like we were valuable and wanted. I disagree that you should keep working. You can supplement your income without actually earning any money by volunteering. The value of your site, utilities, perhaps laundry, propane etc is money that will not come out of your pocket. I would also recommend volunteer.gov as an excellent source of finding volunteer positions. You can choose the area you wish to be and look for a volunteer position. During your time off you can do the tourist thing.

The place I worked only had a 401k, no pention. I quit a long time ago and do not work. Like said above, why would I quit a good paying job that I liked, and at the top of seniority, just to go find another job and start at the bottom again.

When I fulltimed in my RV, I quickly discovered that trying to earn money while fulltiming was not what I was interested in. I had a very good job that paid quite nicely, so why would I exchange that for an entry level job that paid less than minimum wage? I discovered volunteering for the National Park Service. I was treated with courtesy, dignity and respect, and my jobs were something that I found fulfilling. I was always provided with a free site with all utilities including laundry.
