And if you shop at Amazon through their smile.amazon.com portal, a small portion of your purchase price will be donated to a charity that you choose (at no cost to you).

There are almost a million registered charities to choose from. Most, but not all, purchases are elgible for the donation.

And if you can't choose a charity, let me know and I'll suggest one. :B

I have over $150 sitting in an Amazon account. We keep bypassing it because much better pricing is available via eBay. Amazon used to be our "go to". If you look back over 3 years, they have been doing the same thing that Walmart is doing: raising prices by pennies a month, hoping you won't notice.

What do they ship you for $67? If I recall nothing is really free. Free shipping? They jack the price of the item to reflect the free shipping.

Jack up the prices or not, I still find great deals all the time...

There is no question Amazon has good prices most of the time. However, I've beaten their prices a lot of times. You can never trust any company for good prices. I always compare. I just beat Amazon by $50 on a bike I bought at Walmart. Plus the bike I got at Walmart was aready put together, not in a box. Yes I checked both before buying.

I can't see the advantage to Amazon enough to give them money to maybe buy something from them. I just bought 2 (two, dos, 1+1) Equa-flex Wide Stance equalizers for $175.00 that Amazon wants $275.00 for and swears it is only 1 piece, as opposed to the 2 pieces in the picture and that it is advertized as a "kit". They have some good deals, but wait until you have to deal with the off-shore customer service reps. You will be banging your head against the wall due to the cultural disconnect, lack of knowledge etc, differences in language and lack of overall concepts of a business.

With careful shopping and timing, you can just about beat any price they have and not have to pay a fee to shop there. Kind of like belonging to Sam's Club. You have to actually buy enough to cover the cost of the membership.
I always check to see where the best deal is and often enough it is at Amazon, not always, but frequently. I've never gotten the Prime because I hate to pay for shipping, and most of the time you can get free shipping if you look.

I've never had to deal with "off-shore customer service reps" but have had to return several items due to not getting it in time or damaged in shipment. There has never been an issue and, as a matter of fact I've never had to deal with a person at all. Everything was done online. I printed out the return shipping label, and my account was credited as soon as the package was shipped. I'm not a fan of Jeff Bezos, but Amazon has great customer service. At least as far as I'm concerned.

I've been a Prime member for 5 years or so. I think about items I need for weekend projects (if applicable) and if I order on Wed, I have it by Friday. I work long hours and could wait until the weekend, spend minimum of an hour round trip to a store, maybe have to go to multiple stores, plus gas cost OR I can order online at night in a few minutes and it's delivered to my house. I'm fine with that for about $8 per month. Probably order 6-10 items per month for $8 shipping and I use their streaming service. I do try to limit purchases to "sold by Amazon" for best customer service.

I'm also a Prime member, for a number of years now. We also have packages arrive from Amazon on Sunday. We use the free videos and we buy a lot of stuff on Amazon. Sometimes I buy things on Amazon with my free two day Prime shipping, and it arrives the same night or in one day, instead of taking two days!! Also, on some items I have bought, free one day shipping is a stated offer for Prime members.

Another benefit of buying from Amazon is that it is one of the very few places I know of on the web that I trust the reviews. Unlike many online sellers, they do not filter the reviews (other than bad words). I recall one Amazon seller who threatened a buyer about a bad review he posted for their product. Amazon promptly kicked the offending seller off Amazon. It's a very well run company with awesome customer service.

I consider Prime a good deal, between the unlimited 2-day shipping and the online video content, however you have to use it enough to make it worthwhile. We recently were glad we had it in particular, we were out camping and forgot to bring enough of one of the over-the-counter medications for our elderly dog. We were not near any large cities.

No problem, ordered it through Amazon, and Prime membership also entitles you to $3.99 one-day shipping. We had it delivered to our campsite by UPS, in one day.

Even without prime you can usually get free shipping for orders over $35.00 if you don't mind waiting the 5-8 days.

Jeff Bezos has done an excellent job of seeing that returns are no arguments, no hassles, and fast. That's a far cry from almost any online store.

Prime is great.. good movie selection on internet, 2 day shipping on most stuff, and good prices. Maybe not ALWAYS the cheapest, but the service is killer. And you never have to call anyone, let alone "off shore".. it's all online.

If an item is sold, and fulfilled by Amazon, you don't have to deal with any "off shore" people. Amazon's return policy is one of the best. We have probably sent 10 things back in a year, never a problem, always free. Also, have sent back a few items not sold by Amazon, and no problems there either. They do a good job of vetting their dealers.
Dr Cook, There is no fee to shop there. Read what the Prime Membership gives you, if you don't want it fine, but please don't post wrong information.

You don't have to be a member to shop.

For the longest time I chose not to be a Prime member. Everytime around Christmas, I would join to get the free shipping and then cancel. Decide this go round to keep it. Glad I did. I know over the year I have saved more than my $90 membership. Many times I will find something in a store, and then find it cheaper on Amazon. With two days shipping for Prime, it's a no-brainer.

Yes, there are some things still cheaper elsewhere, and I do still check. And yes, there are sometimes I don't mind paying a tad more, if it contributes to a local business, but when I can order on Amazon Sunday nite and have it by Tuesday, for a lot less, it's worth it to me.
