Another WalMart shooting

Just saw this on the news here in Oregon

I just worry will re-evaluate there tolerance for us RVers parking in there lots

While at Topsail a fine State park in Fl our next door neighbor was burglarized and his pistol was stolen, nice job of turning a thief into an armed thief.

I have overnighted in Cracker Barrels and would do so again if the weather or tiredness put me in the position I needed to do so. I don't carry a gun and I have no fear of the bogeyman.

While pinnig the rose on your nose - have you ever noticed ummm -
(possibly) "undesirable" folks in a campground?

Sometimes it's just an opinion (rants on noisy kids, barking dogs, etc.) but other times it's "fer sure"!

Dangerous RV parks - "Oregon Ms" covered it well, but here's something else to say....

Even *YOU* (Yikes!) may have been staying at the Colorado *RV Park* where escaped TX murderers were staying in a MH - without arousing suspicion - even from the mgr.

They were posing as missionaries, playing Christian music to enhance their "credibility".
The "Texas Seven" in RV park - scroll to "Capture".

Bet anyone "overnighting" at any nearby Wallys were smiling!..:)..:B

BTW - camping in RVs since 1970 - never had a problem in places I chose to overnight inc'l Walmarts - some after finding local campgrounds with "no room at the Inn" while traveling from one place to another.

But - You are genuinely a beacon in the darkness!..:C

One more thing....if you think these same people are not in legitimate campgrounds, you'd be wrong.

I see them in public parks, county campgrounds, private parks and in the woods off of trails. I can't tell you how many meth labs there are in the woods and the teachers in some of the rural communities have a name for the children of these "RVers" it's "feral children". I just about dropped a jaw when I first heard that term. According to the teachers they come and go, totally unpredictable as to when they may show up.

I don't mean to sound harsh, it's just the way it is. I'm not going to candy coat it and call it "homeless population" because plenty of these people are living this lifestyle out of choice. Sure there are legitimate homeless but that's a different topic.

These "RVers" are a big reason of why I left Eugene. They don't just "RV", they camp in tents EVERYWHERE including city streets (and the city invites them). Seriously, this place has become a bum magnet. This has NOTHING to do with the legitimate RV community but I have not doubt that it's the good guys that are going to pay.

The only times we stay at a campground is when we are there as a base camp so we can visit the area. When we are traveling from point A to point B we stay at truck stops, Wal-Mart's or wherever we can find a place to just get a few hours sleep. Cannot see spending 35 dollars or more a night to get a couple hours sleep. YES, we can afford to pay the price to stay in a campground. Some people get paranoid about staying any place but a campground.

Interesting...No time table, now specific place to be, no worry about getting back to work in a few days. I would do the same thing. But some people do have these constraints and don't have an extra couple hours driving to a campground off the express way to their destination. I don't stop at Walmarts but I do understand it when time is at a premium.

I look forward to overnighting in a Walmart parking lot. The reason being, it'll mean I'm on a long RVing excursion. I'll quit overnighting at Walmarts when Walmart quits allowing me to do it. And, I'll respect their method of management.
After all, there's other places where I can overnight.

WalMart is about one thing: Sales. (Not saying it is bad)

When the parking lot problems start hurting sales, WalMart will take action.

Sounds uncaring, but that is the truth of the matter.

WalMart operates, not counting Sam's Club, 4177 stores in the US.

2014 shootings have included:
92 shootings, 16 dead, 42 injured

A fairly small percentage overall.
