Started in late 40's (ages) in tent by end of 1st season bought a used pop up. Had that 10 years. Had an older used motor home for one season. Then ordered a new Georgie Boy in January of 1996. Still have it and it will be 21 years old this April. Camped until we retired in 2001. Spent 10 years traveling the country. Now at 81 and 83 we are back to camping and traveling in Indiana and Michigan. Hope we don't have to stop anytime soon.

We bought our first RV at age 65. We both retired at 55, looking back we should've bought one then.

Guess I hadn't actually stated my age when we purchased our first RV, a new Georgie Boy slide in truck camper. Was 23 years old and after college and the same age for my wife as she is less than 3 months younger than me. Just young'uns then!

Brining down the average here. Bought my first TT at 22 and just order my first 5er that I'll have at 26.

I think the average age sounds right. Camping is a family or retired tradition. I bet if you add 5 years to the average age people are starting families and that will be near the average age for people starting camping

As a farmer I could not find time until had a mini stroke and realized I needed to get away. That was 2003. Now that I no longer farm we spend 3-4 months in Rv. I'm now 72 and hopefully many more years.

I grew up tent camping and backpacking. Continued doing that through adulthood. I bought my trailer when I was 43 and could finally afford to pay cash for one. (I won't go into debt for unnecessary things. That's just me and my comfort level.) I'm now 46 and shopping for a trailer that will handle boondocking better.

It looks like the average age that people bought their fist camper on this thread so far is around 35. Rounded up for mid year and did not include tent camping or with parents.

Started camping with a tent while in College. We bought our first RV when we were 31.

I remember camping before my teens in a tent, then as a teenager in a tent with the boy scouts, weekends with my One Uncle and Aunt an cousins many times, then with the Army in the 60es LOL .... Bought a slide-in truck camper in the 90es, second truck camper in the 2002 and our 1st 5th wheel in 2007, bought a new 5th wheel this past February... The wife in her late 60es and myself in my 70es were not slowing down any time soon Yahooooo .....

We both were in scouts as young kids and camped in pup tents too when in grade school and up till 18 but that is not what this thread is about. It's about RV'ing not tent camping. My parents had purchased their first TT (16' Bonanza) in 1954 and we went RV travel and camping a lot in the state parks in Michigan in the summers. It dose remain though that both of us in actual years of camping including in tents is really about 68 years each now and us old farts are still doing it as I type and not about to stop anytime soon!

We married in 1961 and purchased our first RV unit in 1965, a new 8' Georgie Boy Truck Camper for our 6 cyl single cab floor shift pickup. Wife and I plus 2 still in diapers used the snot out of it. Added a 22' Banner TT a few years later for more room as the kids got bigger and pulled it with a V-8 Station Wagon as we needed more passenger room and the kids being a boy and a girl in the TT too. Kept the Georgie Boy TC too as it was paid for and perfect for days at the beach etc.

Always have had a TC ever since and still do and will even with all our other RV's we have as they are so useful and nimble and fit a real need and want. Can pull a boat with them or other trailer and still have your small home right with you. Fits in about any CG site or no site at all and also in a normal parking lot slot too. Far different than what's required for a TT, 5th wheel, MH rig size needed place to park anywhere!

Started camping as a boy scout in a pup tent, camped in a tent until I was about 35 then got an old TT. Have had a variety of TT's since. Dw is now 86 and me 77, now have an Aliner and still camp locally, might be the last year tho. Its been fun bit all good things come to an end sooner or later..

It only makes sense to me to start when you are not retired. I know how much I make now and what my health is. If I wait until I am retired, it may never happen. Our health may not let us or our finances. We can't live for tomorrow (although we plan for it). We work hard to play hard, while we can.
