We spent the past 5 days camped at Piney Campground in LBL on Kentucky Lake. Some friends of ours were there in their trailer too.

On Friday night, we grilled steaks and took them to our friends' trailer, where they had the fixings prepared, and ate. After eating, we were sitting around inside their trailer visiting, when there was a horrible wrenching, tearing sound, and the whole trailer shook. Since it had been storming, I thought someone had lost control of their car and slid into the trailer. DW thought a tree had fallen on the trailer.

We ran outside to find that one of the arms of the awning, which was extended, had broken off the side of the trailer. Luckily, a tree had not fallen, the plastic "awning carport foot" had just failed.

While he was not editing his comments, I was examining the damage. The metal awning arm was not damaged, the plastic piece had broken cleanly off. He was planning to borrow a ladder the next day to get up there to cut off the awning so he could remove the hardware. It could not be towed as it was.

That night, when I got back to my MH, I booted up the computer and found I could buy a replacement awning carport foot.

The next AM, I went back over there before he started cutting and told him I could fix it. We drove over to a local RV repair shop to buy the part. The shop had the upper arm bracket, and the lower arm bracket, but did not have the awning carport foot. However, he had recently replaced one of those awnings, and still had the hardware from the other RV. He sold my friend the used awning arm. We drove back to the trailer, and were able to slide the awning arm without the awning carport foot out, and slide the new (used) awning arm in. It worked great. His awning was fixed.

Nice work!!! That's why I carry too many tools in the truck. You never know what you'll need and when you'll need it. From experience I've always needed what I don't have, so I usually carry everything.

Yep, didn't have a pop rivet gun. It was at home.

The RV shop was Little Eagle, or Eagle 1, or something like that.

We always enjoy Piney Campground. DW grew up in Paris, TN so it is coming home for her.

On Wednesday, we put flowers on graves:
1. Parents
2. 2 sets of Grandparents
3. Great Grandparents
4. Great Great Grandparents
5. Great Great Great Grandparents.

The Great Great Great Grandparents were born in 1794 and 1797!

The oldest 2 generations are buried in a family cemetery that is in the middle of someone's cornfield. The other 3 generations are buried in a church cemetery about 2 miles away from the family cemetery.

The reason we couldn't go further back is that the Great Great Great Grandparents had migrated from North Carolina. That is where her Great Great Great Great Grandparents are buried. However, we don't know where in North Carolina.

Wow :E I don't even know who my great grandparents were.

with the exception of the awning mishap, I hope you enjoyed our area of LBL here in Stewart County. We enjoy Piney as well and it's only a 11 mile pull.
I know the RV shop you speak of too.

RVing would sure be a lot more expensive if we couldn't fix things ourselves.

Having lots of beer makes me handier. I forget things if I get thirsty....all my knowledge packs up and heads back to my own trailer.

I bet that made his day. It's always nice to have skills to repair these rigs. I can't imagine the hassle and expense of having to take it to a dealership every time something goes awry.
